[0.7.0] - 2026-10-08
Part of the coordinated MIF (Modeled Information Format) 1.4.2 release.
mnemonic targets MIF 1.4.2; its schemas are byte-identical to MIF 1.4.1, so
the 1.4.1 forms and section references below apply unchanged.
Memories written by earlier releases keep working unchanged: every legacy
form below is still read, and validators report it as a warning, never an
error.
Changed
- [MIF 1.4.1 write forms]: New memories, templates and library writers
use MIF 1.4.1 spellings- camelCase concept frontmatter keys (MIF 1.4.1 section 3.3):
validFrom,
recordedAt,lastAccessed,decay.halfLife,provenance.sourceType,
compressedAt,codeRefs, ... provenance.sourceTypevalues from the MIF enum (user_explicit,
user_implicit,agent_inferred,external_import,system_generated)- capture templates nest
confidence,strength,halfLife,
lastAccessedand the decay model underprovenance/temporal
instead of writing them at the top level - relationships: kebab-case type tokens (
relates-to,superseded-by),
urn:mif:<uuid>targets,metadata.label, and every frontmatter
relationship mirrored as a Markdown link under## Relationships
(section 5.3) instead of[[uuid]]wiki-links - citations:
citationType,citationRole,"@type": Citation
- camelCase concept frontmatter keys (MIF 1.4.1 section 3.3):
- [Tolerant readers]: New
lib/mif_compat.pyresolves legacy and new
spellings identically, preferring the new one. Used by the memory reader,
relationship writer (legacy entries count as duplicates), custodian
(decay, validators, link checker, bidirectional check) and
mnemonic-validate - [Ontology resolution]: Ontologies load from MIF 1.4.1 locations first
(project.mif/ontologies/, user~/.mif/ontologies/,ontology.yamlor
*.ontology.yaml), falling back to the previous
.claude/mnemonic/ontology.yamland${MNEMONIC_ROOT}/.../ontology.yaml
locations (section 10.8.5) - [Vendored ontology schema]:
skills/ontology/fallback/schema/ontology/
re-vendored verbatim from MIF 1.4.1; the previous copy matched no MIF
release - [Naming]: "MIF" is the Modeled Information Format (was misnamed
"Memory Interchange Format" in README, docs, ADR-002) - [mnemonic-validate]: Warns (does not fail) on legacy keys, legacy
sourceTypevalues, non-kebab relationship types, relationshiplabel
outsidemetadata, unmirrored relationships, wiki-link relationship lines
and citations withoutcitationType/citationRole; validates
compressedAtin either spelling - [Versioning]:
pyproject.tomlversion realigned to the plugin
release lineage (was1.6.0, out of step withplugin.jsonand this
changelog); both now read0.7.0 - [MIF 1.4.2 target]: README, docs, the format skill and the vendored
ontology schema provenance now name MIF 1.4.2 as the target release
Added
-
[mnemonic-migrate-mif]: Opt-in tool that upgrades legacy memory files
to the MIF 1.4.1 forms above. Dry run by default;--applywrites each
changed file atomically after saving<file>.pre-mif-1.4.1.bak. Never
renames files, never guesses values (legacysourceTypevalues, missing
citationRole), and never overwrites a key whose camelCase twin exists.
Not run automatically -
[Semantic Search]: QMD integration for vector and hybrid search
- New skill
/mnemonic:qmd-setupfor automated setup - New skill
/mnemonic:qmd-reindexfor re-indexing after captures - Supports BM25 keyword, vector semantic, and hybrid search modes
- Auto-discovers memory roots from config
- Registered collections: org-level, default, and project-level memories
- See docs/semantic-search.md for details
- New skill
Planned
- Export/import functionality
- Web UI for memory browsing
