Unable to (Re)Install - No App Associated

Describe the bug

I opened Modrinth this morning and it said there was an update. However, when it tried to install the update, it said it could not find the "uninstall" program in the Modrinth App folder.
My idea to fix this was to reinstall Modrinth, so I downloaded the installer from the website. However, whenever I try, it gave an error along the lines of "an installation has already been detected" and wouldn't let me install it. So, I deleted both uninstall.exe and modrinthapp.exe from the ModrinthApp folder, thinking that would fix it. I then downloaded the installer from the website and attempted to reinstall. The first time I used the installer, I got:

"An old installation of the Modrinth App was detected that requires administrator permission to update from. You will be prompted with an admin prompt shortly." I click "ok," and then the error: "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page." and "Failed to uninstall old global installation."

The first error (telling me about the admin prompt) only shows up the first time I use the installer. If I install the installer from the website again, it appears once, then never again (but the second and third errors always appear). Running the installer as an admin does nothing to help.

I've looked online for a couple solutions, but the only ones I could find pertaining to Modrinth specifically were about "writing file" errors. I tried the solutions to that (running as administrator, updating java), but it was no use.

Steps to reproduce

1. Go to ModrinthApp folder
2. Delete "modrinthapp.exe" and "uninstall.exe"
3. Download Modrinth Installer from modrinth.com
4. Run Modrinth Installer
5. Go through setup wizard, until the "Installing" section
6. Receive "no app associated" error

Expected behavior

I should be able to use the Modrinth installer to install the Modrinth App onto my PC

Hello, i have the same exact problem except in my case, when i try launching C:\Program Files\Modrinth App\uninstall.exe it tells me that the file is corrupted and not readable

my current version is 0.10.3

(the screen is in french)

I have installed Modrinth but its not showing, and when i try to reinstall it works and launches minecraft but after sometime i get the same error

The easiest solution (afaik) would be to:

1. Copy the ModrinthApp folder in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming to another location (like your desktop)
2. delete ModrinthApp folder in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming
3. delete ModrinthApp folder in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local
4. delete ModrinthApp folder in C:\Program Files
5. delete shortcut in `%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
6. Install newest version of modrinth
   6.5. close the program after installation (if its open)
7. copy paste the ModrinthApp folder you have copied in first step back in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming (if it ask you to replace existing file, just say yes)

You should be able to copy-paste the paths in file explorer.

Maybe you have two modrinth folder in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local (named Modrinth App and ModrinthApp)

in such case you will need to delete both.

when everything is deleted modrinth should not be able to say that there is another installation of modrinth on your computer

I was able to solve it by searching in the Windows Start menu for "modrinth," where a shortcut of the app appeared. By right-clicking it and clicking "go to file location," I was able to delete the Modrinth App shortcut file. I was then able to use the installer to reinstall Modrinth.
