Project 06 VR 0.1.15 - first Quest release

Work in progress: this is the first public release, tested by the project maintainer on Quest 3 and accepted as a strong first build. Further compatibility work is planned. CURRENTLY ONLY SONIC LEVELS WORK. COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER CHARACTERS IS W.I.P

Android base

This build wraps the ARM64 Android Sonic Release port announced in Lowfriend's SONIC P-06 ANDROID PORT. SONIC RELEASE trailer. The pinned p-06RELEASE64.apk was uploaded September 10, 2025 and uses Unity 2022.3.62f1 / IL2CPP metadata 31. As of September 27, 2026, no newer publicly documented Android APK or patch is known. Updating the VR work to a newer Android port and incorporating its latest changes is a future goal if a newer build becomes available and can be verified.

Features and controls

  • OpenXR stereoscopic third-person VR with Quest Touch controller input; optional first-person view with Sonic gloves.
  • Optional physical controls: alternating two-hand running swing, outward-swing homing attack, and crouch-to-charge / stand-to-release spindash; game-action haptics.
  • Open the blue categorized VR menu by clicking both controller sticks together. Navigate with the left stick; use A to enter/apply, X to return to the category list, and B to close.
  • VR settings include Immersive Mode (All), view and hand alignment, UI placement/size/width/hide/follow options, display modes, and graphics/haptics/system settings. Options and personal settings persist through normal app updates.
  • Hold the right Quest Meta button to recenter; it remains the Quest system action.

The repository README documents every menu category, control, default, and setting in detail.

Using the VR gestures

To enable, click both controller sticks together to open the VR menu. Use the left stick to navigate, A to enter/change a setting, X to return to the category list, and B to close. In VR, enable Immersive Mode (All) to turn on immersive VR, first person, physical running, outward-swing homing, crouch spindash and HUD follow together. If you want to stay in third person, leave that bundle off and enable the individual gesture toggles instead. Settings save automatically.

  • Run: enable PHYSICAL RUNNING, then swing both tracked hands back and forth in an alternating running rhythm (one hand forward while the other moves back). Keep the rhythm going. Moving the left stick takes manual control and overrides the hand gesture. Adjust RUN SWING SENSITIVITY if swings are hard to register and RUN SPEED RAMP to tune how quickly speed builds. Specialized rail, vehicle and board controls remain native.
  • Homing attack: enable OUTWARD SWING HOMING. While airborne in an eligible homing state, let the game select a valid target, then quickly extend either arm outward, away from your body. No pull-back is needed. The game still enforces its native target and attack rules, so an invalid or unselected target will not trigger an attack. HOMING SWING DISTANCE adjusts the required extension.
  • Crouch spindash: enable CROUCH SPINDASH. Stand upright and select CALIBRATE STANDING in the VR menu. While grounded, crouch until your head passes the CROUCH DEPTH threshold and hold briefly to charge; stand back up to release once in the direction you are facing. Adjust CROUCH DEPTH if it triggers too easily or requires too deep a crouch. Supported characters: Sonic, Shadow and Metal Sonic. Opening a menu or losing tracking cancels an owned charge safely.
  • Haptics: in HAPTICS, enable GAME HAPTICS and adjust HAPTIC STRENGTH to taste for supported game-action and movement feedback.

For any gesture, confirm its toggle is on, the game is focused and unpaused, and the headset and required controllers are tracked. Gestures only fire in supported character states; physical running yields to left-stick input.

Install and update

Download the single p06-quest-0.1.15.apk asset below and sideload it to Quest. Launch Project 06 Quest from Unknown Sources. It installs alongside the original game. For updates, install over the existing app; do not uninstall or clear app data, which removes saved settings and logs.

Known issue

Some stage glitches appear connected to the Android port itself. A water section has been observed failing to register Sonic on the surface and dropping him into the water. This release does not claim a confirmed fix. An alternate route may be needed to finish an affected level until the port or VR compatibility is refined. Report other repeatable level issues with the stage, route, and run log.

Shadows, post-effects, and some original screen-space effects also need further compatibility work. This WIP release does not claim that every level, character, scene, and effect is fully supported.
