These builds decode video on the CPU, so they run on any machine. For GPU decoding, build from source. The builds are not code-signed:
- macOS: the first time, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
- Windows: at the SmartScreen warning, click More info > Run anyway.
See the README's Download and run section for details.
What's new
Multiple animals (instances)
- Label several animals in a frame. Each instance has its own name and colour, set in the Labeling Tool's Instances row.
- Red remembers how many instances a project has, so each new frame has a slot for every one of them. A small square for each instance shows whether it is labelled, unlabelled or absent on this frame.
- Mark absent: an animal that is out of view on a frame can be marked absent there. This is recorded, not just left blank.
- Copy Prev and Paste keep every instance.
Bounding boxes and oriented boxes
- Bounding boxes are on by default. Draw a box and it goes to the next instance that has no box yet.
- Drag a box's edges or corners to resize it, or drag its name to move it. A right-click menu offers delete, mark absent and more. The selected instance's box is drawn with a thicker line.
- Classes are optional and exported for YOLO. They are hidden when a project has only one class.
Keypoints
- Points can be coloured by reprojection error: green, yellow or red. Set the thresholds in Settings.
- The error is measured when you triangulate (T), between where you placed a point and where it reprojects.
- Hover a point to see its error. The Keypoints table shows the error per camera and the mean for 3D.
- In 2D projects, the table and its actions cover only the focused camera.
tailcycle and tracktail
- Open a tailcycle-dataset session, or export to tailcycle. 2D projects export one session per camera; 3D projects export all cameras together.
- Export writes absent and present status for each instance and splits clips around your labelled frames.
- tracktail is in the new Tailcycle menu. It can predict backwards and keeps your hand-placed labels.
Export
- File > Export lists every format: YOLO, tailcycle, JARVIS and the others.
- Formats that don't apply are greyed out and say why, for example when a project has no calibration.
- YOLO exports every instance:
- frames with only absent animals become background images (empty label files);
- views with nothing labelled are skipped;
- Red warns about views with an instance left undecided.
- The Export window remembers your last settings.
Projects and the app
- A new Welcome screen with New Project, Open Project and Recent Projects (hover a row and click × to remove it), plus links to Open Videos, tailcycle, Settings and Help.
- A single New Project form for videos or a folder of images, calibrated or not. It can make a new skeleton with the Skeleton Creator, using the current frame as the background.
- Menus are now File, Project, Label, View, Tailcycle and Help.
- Unsaved labels: closing or quitting asks Save / Don't Save / Cancel.
- File dialogs start in your Settings folder, or else the last folder you used.
- A Text Size option, and a simpler Settings window that saves as you change it.
Changes for existing users
- Labels are no longer saved automatically on close. Red asks first.
- Label CSVs are written as
frame, instance. Files with the olderframe, class, instancelayout still load. - The separate JARVIS Export Tool is replaced by File > Export > JARVIS.
config.jsonis no longer read. Settings live in~/.config/red/user_settings.json.
