Please allow borderless fullscreen mode for moonlight client

Hi,

Currently, modes for fullscreen and windowed exist and are toggled between with ctrl+alt+shift+x

Please add borderless fullscreen as an option

windowed->borderless fullscreen->fullscreen

Also, there might be the option to always use borderless fullscreen

The problem with regular fullscreen is that entering/leaving fullscreen triggers the monitors to do their "reset" thing. And also, for the cursor to leave the screen area, you must unfocus moonlight (by pressing alt+tab). This is even with mouse capture turned off by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+M. In fullscreen mode, focusing moonlight will re-lock your cursor within the screen again.

Also, it might be a good idea to temporarily show on screen the words "windows" , "borderless fullscreen" and "fullscreen" as the modes are toggled, just to let the user know.

Note that borderless fullscreen is an option in settings -> basic settings -> display mode

But that panel isn't available without exiting the current connection

You can already switch between windowed and borderless windowed using the key combo today.

The full-screen mode you start with is the full-screen mode that Ctrl+Alt+Shift+X will toggle between. If you start in full-screen mode, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+X toggles between full-screen and windowed. If you start in borderless windowed or windowed, it will toggle between borderless windowed and windowed modes. The only case where Ctrl+Alt+Shift+X does not toggle borderless windowed is if you specifically started the stream with full-screen instead of either of the other two modes.

I hesitate to introduce yet another option to change between full-screen and borderless windowed while streaming unless there's a really good reason to do so. On modern platforms like Windows 10, Linux with Wayland, and macOS, the lines between fullscreen and borderless windowed are already very blurry, with most/all of the prior performance advantage of full-screen now available with borderless windowed too. Many newer platforms discourage/prohibit direct exclusive-mode rendering and others prohibit modesetting entirely, making full-screen and borderless windowed basically equivalent anyway.

Do you have a scenario where you would like to start in full-screen and then switch to borderless windowed for some reason?

Hello, thanks for the reply !
No I did not intend to start and full screen and then transition to borderless fullscreen.
Rather, I was using moonlight again after not having used it in quite a few months.

I was frustrated and confused why my cursor was getting locked in you the screen and the long "monitor switching pauses" that happen with fullscreen. I didn't understand why it was happening and how to get out of it. I was hoping pressing the X key continually would land me in borderless fullscreen at some point.

Now I understand, the way out is to close the stream, enter settings and toggle fullscreen to borderless

I wanted to communicate this impression to illustrate what it feels like to be using it again for the first time and not be able to do what you want to do.

Now that I think about it, more than a keyboard shortcut to reach the borderless mode, I would have liked an temporary overlay notification when pressing ctrl alt shift x to let me know if I'm in fullscreen or borderless.

I think noted in another issue, the keyboard shortcuts available as an overlay would be great too !

Other than that, I was impressed how well this ran, in portable mode without admin access on company computers for both server and client.
