2.8.1
Patch for a regression 2.8.0 introduced, found by running the new matcher over 6,088 real notes and diffing against the same run with the feature switched off.
Terms with a full entry keep it
Making abbreviation expansions matchable put them ahead of the drug, preclinical and psych vocabularies, because the acronym term builder runs first and first writer wins.
A card saying "tranexamic acid" stopped getting the drug entry and its DrugBank page, and started getting the TXA blurb over a StatPearls search. "Parathyroid hormone" and eleven other phrases did the same.
Conditions never showed it, which is why it survived release: the acronym-to-condition bridge already copies the condition's summary, url, chips and link kind onto the acronym term, so those popups were identical whichever term won. Drugs, preclinical and psych have no such bridge and simply lost content.
An expansion now yields to a database that owns the phrase outright. Ownership is exact membership, with two morphological exceptions - a salt carried in one list and not the other ("Ulipristal Acetate" against "ulipristal"), and -gram against -graphy.
Nothing looser, deliberately. Six of the eight measured near-misses had to stay with the abbreviation: the preclinical list answers "tricyclic antidepressant" with "Antidepressants", and the condition list answers "Australian Diabetes Society" with "Diabetes mellitus". A rule that trusted resolution alone would have opened diabetes mellitus on a card naming a professional body.
New marks on that collection: 155 at release, 108 now. The 47 that went back are the ones that had been taken. Cost of the feature measured at 0.01 ms per card.
Content
Polycystic ovary syndrome now carries its 2026 name, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, as an alias and in its opening lines. The new name had existed only in the abbreviation list, so a card using current terminology got a note about the rename instead of the entry.
Falls in older adults and Falls in the elderly were two entries for one thing. Merged, keeping the facts only one of them had.
Both content changes reach existing installs over the term library channel without updating the add-on.
2.8.0
Two limits that were invisible from the outside, and the largest content batch so far.
Abbreviations written out in full
A card saying "CRP" opened a popup. The same card saying "C-reactive protein" opened nothing - same term, same explanation behind it. That was true of 272 of the 485 abbreviations in the list, because the matcher was built from the short forms alone.
Both forms are recognised now, matched case-insensitively so sentence case on a card meets Title Case in the dictionary. A card writing both gets both underlined; a card writing only the long form does not get a stray three-letter match added. The popup is headed the same either way.
Forty phrases are left alone as ordinary clinical prose - "emergency department", "heart rate", "per os" - and eleven more carry an editorial parenthetical no card contains. Where a full entry and an abbreviation name the same thing, the fuller entry still wins.
The term library can grow
The updater's maximum download size is now 4 GiB, up from 32 MB and from a flat 8 MB before that. Both earlier figures were chosen against the library as it stood and shipped inside the client, where they would eventually have switched content updates off with no visible cause. The library passed 93% of the 8 MB figure this week.
Nothing about update safety changes: the download is still bounded by the size the manifest declares, still has to match its sha256, and still has to come from a pinned host.
The publish script's 8 MB warning is removed. It was measuring a population that cannot receive content at all - the release-asset host was only allowed in 2.6.3, and the 8 MB limit was replaced in 2.5.0, so no client has ever both accepted a download and stopped at 8 MB.
Content
124 entries and 150 alias strings. Measured against the Year 4 Australian curriculum frameworks, topics with no entry at all fell from 188 to 92 across Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Psychiatry.
Most of that was wording rather than absence. The frameworks say "cervical screening" where the library said "cervical screening test", "fetal death" where it said "stillbirth", "perineal laceration" where it said "perineal tear".

2.7.0
Mostly things that were quietly wrong in the popup and the reference
docks, found by using them rather than by reading the code.
The popup
The button at the bottom of a popup used to scroll out of sight on any
entry long enough to need scrolling, which is most of them. It is
pinned to the bottom now. It has not moved, changed size or changed
what it says; it simply stays where it is while the text scrolls.
Section headings inside a popup could be clicked to jump to that
section of the chapter behind it. On an entry with no chapter, that
click ran a plain search and threw the section away, so it looked
broken because it was. The headings are now links only where there is
a chapter to land in.
Spacing has been reworked. The section labels were rendering dimmed,
because the fade meant for the body text sat on an element that
contained the labels as well, and nothing could lift it off them. They
are at full strength now, with more air between sections and less
between a label and the text under it. Popups are slightly shorter
than before rather than longer, so less scrolling, not more.
Brand names and spellings
A brand name showed the generic's summary under the brand's heading
and never said the two were the same drug. Clopine gave clozapine's
entry with nothing to say so. Every brand name now states the
relationship in a line of its own, and so does every alternate
spelling, so frusemide says it is another spelling of furosemide
instead of silently showing a heading that disagrees with your card.
Twenty-one brand names are shared by more than one generic. Those were
resolving to whichever entry happened to be loaded later, which was
stable only by accident. Combination products now name the combined
entry.
Terms that were being swallowed
Some entries carried an alternate name that included another entry's
name inside it. Because the longest phrase wins, that phrase ate its
neighbour: on a card asking for the positive symptoms of schizophrenia,
the word schizophrenia was absorbed and its own entry never appeared,
so hovering it gave the wrong popup. Five entries did this. They resolve
separately now, and the build refuses the pattern so it cannot come
back.
The reference docks
StatPearls changed the address it hands out for an in-book search. The
add-on strips the surrounding site furniture from that results page,
but it was checking for the old address, so the page arrived with the
database dropdown, display settings and pagination stacked above the
results in a narrow dock. It is stripped again.
A DrugBank page no longer shows a popup for the drug whose page you are
already reading. Other drugs mentioned on the page still work as
before.
DrugBank's own promotional strip across the top of its pages is hidden
in the dock, as is the second loading bar it draws under ours.
The dock's loading bar could stay on screen at a partial fill if the
page's renderer died, since that path never reports the load as
finished. It now always clears.
UpToDate
Clicking an UpToDate chip on a popup opened the public UpToDate site
rather than the address configured in settings. If you reach UpToDate
through an institutional proxy, your session does not exist on the
public site, so the article opened as an abstract with a sign-in
prompt, while pressing Home worked normally. Chips now open through
the same address as Home.
Accessibility
Animated popup backgrounds now stop when the operating system is set
to reduce motion.

Bundles term library 09.09.2026.2, which includes 58 new obstetrics,
gynaecology and paediatrics topics, an entry for anorexia covering both
senses of the word, and 60 abbreviations taken from a scan of a live
collection.
2.6.3
Term-library updates had stopped reaching every install. This release is the fix.
Term updates work again
The add-on downloads its term library separately from the add-on itself, so new
topics arrive without waiting for a release. That download had been failing.
GitHub changed the address it hands out for release files. The updater only
follows a redirect to an address it recognises - deliberately, because the term
library decides what every popup says, and following a redirect anywhere would
mean anyone able to move that link could replace the clinical content. The new
address was not on the list, so every client failed closed, kept the copy it
already had, and logged one line about it. Safe, and quiet.
Eleven library publishes went out during that period and none arrived. On 2.6.3
they all do, in one download on the next launch.
Settings names the content version underneath the add-on version. It should read
09.09.2026 or later after two launches: the download happens in the background
on one launch and is applied on the next, so the matcher is never swapped
underneath a session in progress.
Also fixed
The publish step verified the uploaded asset with curl -L, which follows a
redirect anywhere, so it reported the file healthy for the whole period no client
could fetch it. It now fetches through the updater's own code path, and a test
follows the live redirect and asserts where it lands - so the next time that host
is renamed, a publish fails instead of the fleet.
The diagnostic file was recording that the reference sidebar had opened on its
own every time it had in fact been opened normally, burying the genuine entries.
