Features

• Added a full image editor in its own window, opened from the tray under "Edit Image…". It supports open, save, and save as, drag-and-drop, Ctrl+scroll zoom from 10% to 400%, the capture overlay's annotation tools, and OCR text extraction, AI cutout, and AI eraser (#1).
• Added "Plain Arrow", a tapered arrow style, to the arrow sub-toolbar (#2).
• Added a "Capture complete mode" setting under Settings → Capture. Choose "Elegant & Simple" to copy the selection and show a notification with a large preview; clicking it opens the editor. "What You See Is What You Get" stays the default, unchanged.
• Added "Extract text automatically after capture" and "Hide AI entries" under Settings, and the translation target language now follows your interface language.

Improvements

• Extended CPU support down to Intel's 3rd generation (Ivy Bridge) and earlier. Those machines can now run the app — but some AI features are unavailable on them, and a dialog explains why with a "Don't show again" option.
• When notifications for the app are turned off in Windows, a small self-drawn guide window appears in the bottom-right corner instead of the capture ending with no visible feedback.
• The eraser now erases arrows and lines as well as shapes, and shows an eraser cursor instead of a large plus sign.
• In the editor, the primary toolbar is embedded in the menu bar and always visible, the secondary bar no longer nudges the image when it appears, and the checkerboard backdrop for transparent areas covers only the image.
• Copying in the editor no longer closes the window or clears your selection, the red ✕ clears the image instead of exiting, and the copy confirmation is a centered square card.
• The Capture page in Settings flags new features with a red dot.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed the app crashing on launch on CPUs that don't support AVX2.
• Fixed OCR failing when the app is installed under a path containing Chinese or other non-English characters.
• Fixed images whose path contains non-ASCII characters failing to load when dragged into the editor.
• Fixed the editor window sometimes not loading the screenshot when opened from a notification.
• Fixed AI cutout and eraser leaving shifted images and uncleared strips along the top and left edges in the editor.
• Fixed the editor status bar not updating after an image was loaded, and the toolbar disappearing with drag-and-drop stopping working.
• Fixed text extraction highlights being offset in the editor, and annotation tools being unusable while results were shown.
• Fixed number and emoji stamps drifting downward when resized with the scroll wheel.

Removed

• Removed the Edit and View menus from the editor menu bar.

Model comparison — A help icon next to "AI Cutout Model" opens a table comparing all four models by size, speed, quality, and best use case, so you can tell them apart before downloading. The recommended model is highlighted.

Consistent model naming — Models are now named "Model · Trait" (e.g. "XXX · Recommended") and sorted smallest to largest, making the list easier to scan. Also fixed two models incorrectly labeled as "needs download" when they ship built in.

Inline help for image translation — The description under "Image Translation Service" moved into a hover tooltip on a help icon, matching the cutout section and freeing up vertical space.

Automatic OCR with text selection, character-level highlighting linked between the original image and the result panel, and localization completed for the remaining 13 languages.

Automatic OCR — text is extracted as soon as a region is selected, with no need to click "Extract Text". The selection stays editable; adjust it and the new area is re-extracted.

Partial copy — drag across recognized text and press Ctrl+C to copy only that part. It goes through the native clipboard path, so it appears in Windows clipboard history.

Linked highlighting — selecting text on the original image highlights the matching characters in the result panel, and the reverse, character for character.

Tool-aware overlay — the text layer stays interactive while no annotation tool is active, and hides to restore the drawing cursor once a tool is picked.

Localization — Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Polish and Swedish now cover the image translation settings, bringing all 15 languages to the same set of strings.

Fixes — "Extract Text" opens the result panel directly after automatic OCR; canceling an annotation tool locks all drawn shapes so they cannot be dragged by accident; the "Skip" button in the first-run guide is visible again.

Image Translation

Changed

• Service selection — each service is now a collapsible card: Baidu Image Translation (V2.0 High-Precision / V1 Classic) and Youdao Translate (99 languages). The provider in use is highlighted with an "In use" badge.
• Custom credentials — Baidu works out of the box with a built-in quota; enter your own APP ID and Secret to raise the limit. Youdao runs entirely on credentials you provide.
• Language memory — source and target languages are stored per provider, so switching no longer resets your choice.

Added

• Test Key — verify a credential with one real request, without using any translation quota.

Fixed

• Provider API documentation links now open correctly in the system browser.

Annotation

• Dragging a selection now uses a high-frequency pointer input path and draws immediately instead of waiting for the next frame.
• Selection coordinates on high-DPI displays are converted through the stage coordinate system, correcting cursor offset during drag.

Capture

• On mixed-DPI multi-monitor desktops, the frozen capture overlay now aligns to native virtual-desktop coordinates instead of reusing the primary display's, fixing first-capture misplacement.

Capture straight to clipboard

Press Alt+C or choose "Capture & Copy" from the tray menu to skip the annotation step entirely. Frame your selection, release, and the screenshot lands in your clipboard — ready to paste into a chat, document, or design tool. When you just need the capture and nothing else, this saves the extra click.

The standard F1 capture workflow remains unchanged for when you need to annotate before sharing.

Move toolbars where you want them

The six-dot drag handle is back on the primary and secondary annotation toolbars. Grab it to reposition the toolbar, move it out of the way of important content, or place it where your hand naturally rests. The handle visibility is configurable in Settings under Screenshot preferences.

Screenshots are saved locally, and Shotera does not upload your captured content. No account is required.

Highlights

Much faster capture startup

• The capture and annotation path now reuses and prewarms the annotation window, avoids the previous image-decoding bottleneck, and presents the full-resolution desktop sooner.
• In project benchmarks on a dual-monitor Windows setup, the average shortcut-to-selection time was reduced by 68.2%.
• Capture exit is cleaner, with old selection flashes and the full-window afterimage removed. Copying and saving also move more work out of the visible path.

New Custom Capture workflow

• Open Custom Capture with the default Alt+F1 shortcut or from the tray menu.
• Define an exact X/Y position and width/height, lock an aspect ratio, swap orientation, or add a delay before capture.
• Save reusable size presets and restore the last-used values automatically.
• Multi-monitor coordinates, including negative positions, and sizes up to 40000 pixels are supported. Captures open directly in the annotator.
• Global shortcuts can be cleared individually or restored to defaults in one action.

15 interface languages

• Added Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Polish, and Swedish. Together with English and Simplified Chinese, Shotera now supports 15 interface languages.
• Language changes apply immediately across open app windows and the tray without restarting Shotera. Notifications also use the selected language.
• Interface font names and language choices are localized, and long language names are no longer truncated in the settings menu.
• Arabic includes a full right-to-left layout. Popovers and dropdowns stay correctly positioned, while technical text remains left-to-right.
