mori 1.0.2
The app is called mori. It was mote when 1.0.2 first went out on 2026-09-14; nothing else changed with the name — same editor, same licence keys, same addresses.
- The window, the twelve languages,
mori --version, the binary, the app idcom.motemd.Mori, the desktop entry and icons, the apt packagemori, the Flatpakcom.motemd.Mori, and the file names of every download. - Your settings come with you. The first launch renames
~/.local/state/mote(dev:mote-dev) to the new name once — settings, sessions, drafts, backups, the trial record and an activation move with it. - apt: a transitional
motepackage pulls inmori, sosudo apt update && sudo apt upgrademoves an installed copy across — orsudo apt install morioutright. (apt-get upgradewill not: it never installs a package that was not there before.apt-get full-upgradedoes.) Flatpak moves withflatpak update. The AppImage and the tarball do not update themselves to this build — the version number is unchanged, so the update check sees nothing newer; run the same install command again, or download the file, and you have it. - Licence keys still begin with
MOTE-. A key you already have keeps working.
Cards keep their keys, the palette is the web editor's, and the switch is a switch.
Cards and Ctrl+W
- With Preferences, a "Save changes?" card or the palette open, Ctrl+W closes the card — not the window. Before, the window's shortcut fired first: one clean document, one tab, and the whole app was gone without a word. No other document shortcut (Ctrl+N, Ctrl+O, Ctrl+T…) reaches through a card any more either; the card's own keys are unchanged.
The command palette
- Ctrl+K is now the same palette as the web editor's: 520 wide, 84 px from the top, a 46 px field, a list no taller than 320 px that scrolls to keep your selection in view, hover in the selection colour.
Lists in cards
- The palette and the Preferences sheet scroll in a lane of their own — an 8 px lane at the card's inner right edge, there only while the list overflows. The bar used to be painted over the rows, across the shortcut text.
The Preferences switch
- A real pill: 34 × 20, the knob touching both ends with a 2 px inset. It slides over 200 ms while the track colour crosses over, and stretches a little towards where it is going while you hold it — the proportions of iOS's switch. Reduced motion makes it instant.
- Its styling used to leak onto every toggle button in the app, which is why the mode switcher (Live / Source / Read) grew a grey pill under the pointer that overlapped the thumb, and why the header's sidebar button was a shade too dark on hover. The switcher's hover is colour only now.
The header and the rail
- With the file rail open the header keeps its hairline even at the top of the page, so the rail and the paper meet at a line. Close the rail at the top and the header is the page again.
Ctrl+N without a folder
- Nothing changes on disk: with no folder open, Ctrl+N is a new tab, and the message says so — "New tab — no folder is open, so this document is untitled until you save it". With a folder open it still writes
Untitled.mdthere.
