Post-Crash Reopen Tabs didn't work #15810

Description

@NiceGuy1-69

Steps to reproduce

None (Happened once, randomly)
What happened:

  1. Set Firefox to keep tabs from previous session, new tabs are Home Tab
  2. Open several various tabs (12 maybe?)
  3. Close Firefox and remove from memory, maybe reboot iPad
  4. Reopen Firefox
  5. Watch a video on a website
  6. Pause video midway
  7. Tap iPad's power button to Sleep the device with Firefox still open
  8. Return 7 hours later
  9. Wake device
  10. Observe how Firefox isn't open now
  11. Open Firefox
  12. Observe all tabs replaced with two Home tabs
  13. Answer Reopen prompt by tapping Reopen Tabs
  14. Observe how nothing happens, the prompt is just dismissed

Expected behaviour

When asked if I wanted to Reopen Tabs, tapping Reopen Tabs should open the tabs I had. Also, to not unnecessarily close all tabs, especially unrelated and not loaded tabs.

Also, if Reopen Tabs fails, or I say No, History -> Recently Closed Tabs should have all the lost tabs. If a webpage DID cause the crash, I may not want to reopen ALL tabs, just the ones that didn't cause the crash. Safari finally lost this terrible "Throw away all your tabs" behaviour years ago, don't be worse than Safari.

Actual behaviour

Firefox opened with TWO Home tabs. After I tapped Reopen Tabs, I was still left with the Home Tabs (BTW I only want a Home Tab if I open a new tab, not every time I open Firefox, since I have it set to continue my last session. And definitely not 2)

Also, it should be noted that when the Reopen Tabs command failed, I went to History to Recently Closed Tabs to reopen them manually, but the list was empty.

Device & build information

  • Device: iPad with iPadOS 16.5.1 (c) (20F770750d) (latest iOS)
  • Build version: Firefox 114.3 (31916) (latest)
  • First seen version: Firefox 114.3 (31916) (this is the first time it crashed)

Notes

I was watching a video when I paused it and pressed the power button to put the iPad to sleep. Several hours later I woke the device, Firefox was no longer open, I was on the "desktop". When I opened Firefox all my tabs were gone for no reason - most had not been loaded during this session and thus cannot possibly trigger a crash, and the ones which HAD been open were from XVideos, a site which thus far has been perfectly stable and not causing any issues (even when I keep the tab between sessions). Also, the device was asleep, there should have been no activity to CAUSE a crash.

When the Reopen Tabs command failed, I went to History to Recently Closed Tabs to reopen them manually, but the list was empty. When I started kind-of recreating my tabs by reopening some links from my History (this still misses the Back history of the tab), I tried rearranging a tab while it was still opening and Firefox crashed again (it was a different page, so still not the page's fault). This time, Reopen Tabs worked - though it was only the tabs I had just created. Therefore, this crash may be due to the amount of time, it was probably 6 or 7 hours that my device was asleep, maybe Firefox couldn't find my tabs or list them as Recently Closed because they crashed/closed hours ago? This is not how it works on my Desktop Firefox, where I can freshly open Firefox and reopen tabs I closed yesterday.

(Note: I am a former game tester, I know how to observe and report details)

Sorry, I have no attachments, I didn't take a screenshot, and if I did, it would just be the standard Reopen Tabs prompt, and two Home tabs open, as I described.
