Miyoo64 v1.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@mr-finster mr-finster released this 17 Oct 11:25

Mini v4 and Mini Flip on Onion: a game started from the GameSwitcher (the recent games list) now fills the 752x560 screen, as it already did from Ports or Apps. Before, it ran in a small 640x480 picture in the middle of the screen. Onion only switches the screen to 752x560 for a game that says it supports it, and switches back to 640x480 after every game; the zips now carry Onion's two markers (App/<Game>/full_resolution, and FullResolution=1 in the Ports shortcut). Nothing changes on a Mini or Mini Plus.

Also in this release:

  • All ten games: on a 752x560 Mini, data/launch.log in the game's folder notes the screen mode the game found at start (handy if a game ever shows small again).
  • Perfect Dark is 1.0.4 (the same two markers).
  • The games themselves are exactly the 1.1.2 builds: only the packaging changed.

Full list of changes: Changelog.

To update, unzip the new zips over the old ones: your saves carry over, and RESUME GAME carries over from 1.1.2 (the game builds are the same).

Miyoo64 v1.1.2

@mr-finster mr-finster released this 17 Oct 04:20

All ten games: the auto save is now written when the Mini goes to sleep, both on a POWER press and after 50 s with no button (before Onion's idle sleep). If the Mini then powers itself off while asleep, RESUME GAME at the next start puts you back where you were. Before, that power-off often came too quickly for the game to save, so the next start had nothing to resume. Details: Sleep and wake.

Also in this release:

  • GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark: powering off with the MENU open now saves the auto save, as the other games already did.
  • Perfect Dark 1.0.3: your game save (finished levels, agent files) is written safely, so a power-off during a save can no longer wipe it. RESUME GAME is offered every time; before, about half the starts threw the auto save away.
  • Super Smash Bros.: you can bring a save from an emulator or a flash cart. Drop the .sra, .srm or .sav into App/SuperSmashBros/data and it is imported at the next start (your old save is kept as a backup). How: Bringing a save.
  • Ocarina of Time and GoldenEye 007: the first-start screen fills the Mini Flip and Mini v4 screen instead of showing squashed.
  • All games: an auto save that doesn't match the game (after an update) is kept as state_quick.sav.rejected instead of being deleted.

Full list of changes: Changelog.

To update, unzip the new zips over the old ones: your saves carry over. The first start after the update offers no RESUME GAME (an auto save only loads into the version that wrote it); your in-game saves are not affected.

@mr-finster mr-finster released this 16 Oct 12:50

All ten games: no more slowdown and choppy sound after the Mini sleeps and wakes. Onion's sleep left the CPU at 400 MHz on wake, so the game ran at a third of its speed until you restarted it. Each game now puts its clock back within a second of waking (its console.log says wake:). Details: Sleep and wake.

Also in this release:

  • Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing no longer log a stall report every time the Mini wakes.
  • Perfect Dark 1.0.2: the same sleep fix. It still includes 1.0.1's ROM finder (any byte order, anywhere on the card), which was already in the 1.1.0 zip. Its controls text now says what the game does: hold A to switch the fire mode, or press A + B.

Full list of changes: Changelog.

Miyoo64 v1.1.0

@mr-finster mr-finster released this 16 Oct 00:16

Perfect Dark is out: the 10th native N64 port for the Miyoo Mini, built from the decompilation (not an emulator). The full solo campaign, save states and resume, GoldenEye-style controls. It needs Perfect Dark (USA) Rev 1 as a .z64 dump.

Every game now fills the whole screen on the Mini Flip and Mini v4, and the black border some Mini v4 players saw is fixed. Nothing changes on a regular Mini or Mini Plus. Full screen hasn't been tested on a real Flip yet: if it ever looks wrong, set <GAME>_FLIPFILL=0 in the game's launch.sh to get the old picture back.

Fixes checked against a real N64:

  • Paper Mario: the glows are back (Star Rod, Kammy's orb, lightning), the Star Spirits' glow cloud is white, and no white box on Bowser in the intro.
  • F-Zero X: machine decals, the attack rim, the static fade into a race and explosion debris now match the N64.
  • Star Fox 64: space and fades are the N64's dark grey instead of pure black.
  • GoldenEye 007: soft shadow ovals on the Runway snow again.

GoldenEye 007 runs smoother and faster: a frame whenever one is ready, with motion following the real frame time (Dam went from 30 to about 36–50 fps). Diddy Kong Racing holds a steady 30 fps instead of jumping to 60 in light scenes.
