First release of LeadLine — an anti-clickbait, BLUF-first news reader for macOS.

Highlights

  • The Stack: full-window vertical snap-scroll — one story at a time, straight headline + 3–5 BLUF bullets always above the fold, original headline in the footer for transparency
  • Bring your own AI: Ollama and/or Anthropic, each assignable Primary / Secondary / Off, with in-app model discovery
  • Summarize on demand only: the story on screen plus a configurable read-ahead window (0–10); nothing is pre-processed in bulk
  • Publisher-conservative: robots.txt respected, bodies TTL-purged within 24h, only summaries persist, prominent attribution and source links
  • Local-first: single process, SQLite, no accounts, no telemetry

Install

Unzip and drag LeadLine.app to Applications. The app is ad-hoc signed (not notarized): right-click → Open on first launch, or xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/LeadLine.app.

Requires macOS on Apple Silicon.
