HandTracker

HandTracker is a webcam hand-tracking tool that turns finger curls into keyboard inputs.

It uses OpenCV and MediaPipe to detect one hand in real time. When you curl a finger, the app presses a matching keyboard key. When you open the finger again, the key is released.

How to Use the EXE

  1. Download HandTracker.exe from the release or dist folder.
  2. Run HandTracker.exe.
  3. Enter your camera index.
    • Most webcams use 0.
    • If 0 does not work, try 1 or 2.
  4. Curl your fingers to press the matching keys.
  5. Press Q in the camera window to quit.

The .exe version is standalone. You do not need to install Python or any Python libraries.

How to Run From Source

Install Python, then install the required packages:

pip install opencv-python mediapipe keyboard

Make sure hand_landmarker.task is in the same folder as Handspython.py.

Then run:

python Handspython.py

Debug Window

The camera window shows finger status:

Color Meaning
Green Finger is open
Red Finger is curled and the key is pressed

Notes

  • A webcam is required.
  • On some systems, keyboard input may work better if the app is run as administrator.
  • Windows SmartScreen or antivirus may warn because the .exe is unsigned.
  • If the camera does not open, try a different camera index.
