MD Reader 2.1.0
Footnotes your way
Long footnotes no longer break up the text.
-
By default a footnote shows as a small number. Tap or click it to read the
footnote in a popup next to the number, or in a panel at the bottom of the
screen on a phone. Click outside the popup, press Esc, use the close button
or turn the page to close it. A footnote that links to another footnote
opens that one. You can also reach the numbers with Tab and open them with
Enter. -
New Footnotes setting, in the Appearance panel and in plugin settings:
- Number, text on tap (default)
- In the text, in brackets (the previous behaviour)
- Hidden
Switching modes keeps your place in the book, and there is no need to
re-import. -
FB2 and EPUB import now writes standard Markdown footnotes:
[^1]in the
text, with the footnotes listed at the end of the file. An imported book is
an ordinary note, and its footnotes work in the Obsidian editor too. -
Your own notes with
[^1]footnotes get the same treatment. Before, footnote
references in a big note split into blocks showed up as plain[^1].
Books imported before 2.1 have their footnotes baked into the text. Re-import
them to use the new modes.
Fixes
- EPUB footnote markers wrapped in
were raised twice. In the old
bracket mode, the whole footnote text ended up in superscript. - A footnote on a chapter title no longer adds its number to the table of
contents.
Validation: 118 logic and 98 UI checks passed. A headless Chromium run with a
simulated Obsidian host passed 37 more checks covering FB2 and EPUB import, the
popup, the bottom panel and mode switching. Also checked by hand in Obsidian.
The Playwright layout and reading suites were not run for this release.
