Experimental Linux AppImage
Ape Escape now has a Linux build alongside the Windows release.
- Single-file
.AppImage, no install:chmod +xand run - Bundles the MIT-licensed OpenBIOS, so no BIOS dump is required
- Ships the prebuilt overlay cache as native Linux
.soshards, so first-run
performance matches Windows instead of starting out interpreted - Seeds its writable state (saves, cache, mods, settings) into
~/.local/share/ApeEscapeRecomp— override withAPE_ESCAPE_RECOMP_DATA_DIR.
Your own cache shards and editedinput.inisurvive AppImage updates.
You still supply your own Ape Escape (USA, SCUS-94423) disc image.
Loading speed mods
This build also picks up the framework's two new loading mods, both off by
default and independent of each other:
- Fast Loading (host pacing) — speeds up wall-clock pacing during a load.
Safe (every guest frame and CD interrupt still happens), but the game does run
faster while loading. - CD Speed — makes the emulated drive deliver data sooner, so loads shorten
while the game keeps running at normal speed.
Both take a typed multiplier (1 = authentic, 2–32 useful, higher accepted) plus
a tickbox for uncapped / instant.
Does not include the game disc, a retail PlayStation BIOS, or save data.
