What's new

Fixes Link Cable netplay sessions closing on both players about 20 seconds after connecting (v0.1.0 and v0.1.1). The game re-enters its per-frame loop with a long-range bl jump that never returns; under netplay each one left a call-return entry behind until the runtime's 1,024-entry limit aborted both games. The recompiler now lowers those jumps as branches, and the runtime drops stale entries (with a logged warning) instead of aborting.

Both players must update: sessions only pair between identical builds.

Download the Windows x64 ZIP or Linux x86_64 AppImage below. Supply your own Mario Kart: Super Circuit (USA) ROM and GBA BIOS; neither is included. SHA256SUMS.txt lists both download hashes.

Validation: v0.1.1 reproducibly aborted in a localhost pair at frame ~1,330; the packaged v0.1.2 Windows build ran 20,000-frame localhost pairs in rollback and delay-sync modes with no aborts, and a packaged single-player run reports FULLY_STATIC coverage. Framework tests 59/59; the Linux AppImage passed its packaged 1,500-frame smoke test.

What's new

Linux internet netplay sign-in now tries available browser launchers in sequence: WSL wslview when applicable, then xdg-open, gio open, and sensible-browser. The AppImage preserves the host library path for those helpers. Two-player Link Cable netplay remains available.

Download the Windows x64 ZIP or Linux x86_64 AppImage below. Supply your own Mario Kart: Super Circuit (USA) ROM and GBA BIOS; neither is included. SHA256SUMS.txt lists both download hashes.

Validation: 25/25 recomp-net tests under WSL, framework multiplayer netplay tests, and packaged 1,500-frame full-static smoke runs on Windows and Linux. Live Discord OAuth was not exercised in this environment.

Mario Kart: Super Circuit Recomp v0.1.0 - Netplay and Linux

Mario Kart: Super Circuit Recomp v0.1.0 adds two-player link-cable netplay, with Windows and Linux releases that can play together.

New in this release

  • Host or join from the launcher's Netplay tab, using recomp-net Internet or LAN sessions.
  • Choose rollback or input-delay synchronization. Each peer locally runs both virtual GBAs and their cable; Internet latency is handled above the cable simulation.
  • Choose Your display independently: native, 16:9, 21:9, 32:9 or adaptive widescreen. Players can use different window and monitor sizes.
  • Save and leave the entire paired session with Shift+F1 or by closing once. Original cartridge saves remain unchanged. Resume currently uses --netplay-resume with matching archives on both peers.
  • First native Linux x86_64 AppImage release, with bundled SDL and a writable per-user settings/save folder.

Downloads

  • Windows x64: extract MarioKartSuperCircuitRecomp-windows-x64-v0.1.0.zip and run MarioKartSuperCircuitRecomp.exe. Keep the included DLLs and folders together.
  • Linux x86_64: make MarioKartSuperCircuitRecomp-linux-x86_64-v0.1.0.AppImage executable and run it. If FUSE is unavailable, add --appimage-extract-and-run. Built on Ubuntu 22.04; install zenity or kdialog if the ROM/BIOS file picker is unavailable.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt contains checksums for both downloads.

Supply your own USA game ROM and retail GBA BIOS; neither is included. Both players must use this exact release and matching game images. Back up existing saves/settings before updating.

This release supports two-player, same-game, multi-cart link-cable play. Wireless Adapter, Single-Pak multiboot and cross-version Pokemon linking remain future work. Gameplay-changing single-player mods are not enabled in netplay; the independent display options remain available.

Validation

Windows/Linux packaged peers produced byte-identical complete session checkpoints in both rollback and input-delay modes, including a fresh-process resume. Windows pairs also passed injected 40 ms latency/10 ms jitter with forced rollback corrections and different view settings. Packaged single-player smoke runs remained fully static. The earlier interactive Emerald and Mario Kart link tests were accepted by the owner.

The automated checks use dummy audio/video; they do not qualify every Internet/NAT setup or every Linux desktop. No new Android artifact is included in this release.

v0.0.3

  • Bundles and validates the TCC overlay toolchain in Windows release packages.
  • Enables runtime self-heal sharding by default; when the bundled toolchain is present, auto backend selection now prefers bundled TCC over PATH compilers.
  • Fixes adaptive widescreen temporarily pillarboxing during lap-crossing / final-lap Lakitu animations.
  • Keeps portable ZIP entry-name validation from v0.0.2.
  • Built from MarioKartSuperCircuitRecomp 0ca6286 and gbarecomp 425d941.

v0.0.2

  • Removes the historical implicit runtime step ceiling. Interactive play now continues until you quit; only an explicit --steps option applies a deterministic upper bound.
  • Updates to gbarecomp 2952aff, including interrupt-safe ARM/Thumb exchange handling.
  • Regenerates the static guest corpus with the current code generator.
  • Validated with a 180-frame headless boot smoke and an audited Windows x64 archive.
