v0.5.3 — coverage and correctness update
Sonic 3 family v0.5.3
Correctness update for Sonic 3, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic & Knuckles.
The Windows x64 ZIPs require your own matching USA Sonic 3 ROM or the shared
NTSC Sonic 3 & Knuckles / Sonic & Knuckles ROM. Accepted CRC32 values are
9BC192CE, 63522553, and 0658F691, respectively. No ROM is included.
IceCap's moving column saves two word-sized velocities and restores them
with one longword read. The generator now balances stack movement in bytes
before counting skipped return addresses. This fixes the reproduced strict
stack failures and skipped caller code in IceCap Acts 1 and 2. The original
stack checks and build/state identity guards are retained.
Launch Base Act 1's lower water background now repeats its authored
512-pixel canvas instead of reading the neighboring layout bank. Hidden
Palace background diagnostics use the completed draw position captured at
V-int. Bonus and Blue Spheres transitions no longer compare provisional
pixels that the native viewport fallback replaces.
Validation: all 32 original Sonic 3 & Knuckles level-select entries and 13
attract routes across the three cartridges pass at 32:9 with strict stack
checking. All 160 stage checkpoints preserve RAM and VRAM; screenshot
changes are confined to the corrected Launch Base water route. Renderer
regressions cover the water canvas, draw-publication timing and native
transition fallback. The shared generated-C stack regression passes all
12 ordinary/mixed-width, split-tail and skipped-return combinations.
This is a bounded assisted coverage pass, not certification of every boss
victory, ending or alternate route. Widescreen and Knuckles remain optional
Mods. Existing experimental renderer/gameplay limitations still apply.
Keep cartridge saves and settings. Quick states require the same build and
configuration; compilation alone does not qualify cross-build netplay.

Windows x64 packages passed extracted launcher/settings checks and representative exact gameplay replays. Production builds disable the TCP debug server and development tracing. Audio defaults to normal volume. ROMs, saves, user settings and private captures are excluded. The game version and state/build compatibility guards remain intact; these checks do not qualify cross-build netplay.
