v0.7.0 — Opt-in custom widescreen
Enable Mods → Widescreen in the recomp-ui launcher or the in-game Escape
menu. The mod is disabled by default and offers 16:9, 21:9, 32:9
and Adaptive. Adaptive follows the entire window without a 32:9 ceiling.
- Separate custom renderer reconstructs foreground/background scenery beyond
the Genesis tile buffers, with screen-anchored HUD and expanded rings/objects. - Wider title-screen scenery and rotating special-stage layouts; full-width
transition/fade canvas. - Green Hill parallax follows the wide camera at stage boundaries, addressing
the background slide near spawn. - Object loading and culling share the same activation cells, fixing missing
platforms and impassable pits seen in the initial widescreen prototype. - Corrected the sound-driver return-stack unwind that restarted a stopped
jump sound. This correction applies with either renderer. - Saved mod settings; command-line widescreen overrides remain available.
Widescreen remains experimental. Extreme widths can exhaust dynamic actor
storage, earlier activation changes enemy encounters, and later zones/bosses
and save-state rewinds need additional coverage. The mod is disabled in netplay.
An existing Labyrinth Burrobot control-flow issue also reproduces in the older
native build and is not fixed by this release.
Windows x64 native build. Bring your own legally obtained Sonic 1 ROM: no ROM,
save data, debug server, or development traces are included. Source and the
required engine/core revisions are pinned in this release's submodules.
