An account now does one thing: sync. The server used to scrape novels,
store their text, build EPUBs, serve covers and run a web reader. All of that
happens on the device already, so it has been taken out of the server and out
of the app. What an account adds is the library kept in step between devices:
the novels, their order, ratings, categories, read chapters, the reading
position to the sentence, and which sources are installed.
Importing an EPUB happens here, and needs no account. The file used to be
uploaded to the server; it is read on the device now, so importing works
offline, signed in or not. An imported novel stays on the device that
imported it and is deliberately not synced: the records carry what a library
holds, not the books themselves.
Save as EPUB works for any novel, offline. The file was built by the
server and offered only for novels stored there. It is written on the device
now, from the chapters held there, for any novel with something downloaded.
A novel is split into volumes of a hundred chapters, as the server split them:
one volume saves as a single EPUB, several save as a zip holding one EPUB per
volume. A volume is a fixed window of chapters, so volume 3 is always chapters
201 to 300 and exporting the same novel twice gives the same files.
Exporting the reading statistics no longer needs an account either, for
the same reason: the file is written here.
Novels that lived on the server have been removed from the library. They
cannot be fetched any more, so the rows would only have failed to open.
Anything read from a source is untouched. A novel that was on the server can
be brought back by exporting it as an EPUB beforehand and importing the file.
The Progress tab is gone, along with checking a server novel for new
chapters and the scrape relay. Novels from a source are still checked for new
chapters, on the device, as before.
