Working for Indiana University UITS Enterprise Web Tech Services, I created this plugin for all members of the IU community.

What is this plugin?

This plugin integrates your WordPress site with IU's Central Authentication System (CAS). Instead of logging into the WordPress login screen, all users will instead use CAS.

Authorization and user creation is still handled by the administration dashboard within the WordPress site. There, you can created, delete, and edit users. You can also use the built in WordPress "roles" feature to control what each person can and cannot access or do on your site.

You will no longer be storing or managing passwords for users within WordPress. Users will use the same IU Network ID and Passphrase that is officially encouraged by IU for all official services, such as OneStart and Oncourse.

Why did I make this plugin?

WordPress has been an often-used, but never officially supported solution to creating a simple dynamic site, blog, or light Content Management System (CMS) for individuals and departments within IU.

I created this plugin for security and stability reasons.

Should you use this plugin?

If you are running a WordPress blog on any UITS or department server, you should be using this plugin for authentication. This plugin is open source, free, and open to vast scrutiny of security professionals and expert programmers. Anyone is free to modify this plugin for their own use, including those not even affiliated with IU.

That said, you assume the risk of using this plugin. I will try my best to be responsive with updates, careful with design and implementation, and consider all feature requests you have to offer; however, this plugin is what it is, and will never be more than that. It's simply a very safe way to make sure someone is who they say they are, and let you control their access to your site.
