Highlighter

A highlighter beside the Pen in the toolbar (H) that marks without covering: the stroke
multiplies into the image, so text underneath keeps its contrast and stays readable rather than
being washed towards the highlight colour.

Every annotation color works, Shift or Ctrl locks the stroke straight for running along a
line of text, and it has its own Size range separate from the Pen's — wide enough to cover a line
of text — plus the same smoothing. Finished strokes move, resize and restyle like any annotation.

On a very dark background the effect is deliberately subtle: multiplying a near-black pixel by any
color leaves it near-black. Rectangle and Blur remain for emphasis that does not depend on what is
underneath.

Color picker

Pick a color from anywhere on screen. Color picker in the tray menu — directly below New GIF, or Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+4 — freezes the desktop and replaces your mouse cursor with a magnifier: the surrounding pixels at 17x, the pixel it is reading outlined in the middle of the aperture, and its hex value below.

Picking copies the color straight to your clipboard — no second step for the thing you came to do, in whichever format you set under Settings.

• Hold Shift for pixel-by-pixel. Sampling slows to an eighth speed, so a one-pixel window border or an anti-aliased edge stops being a matter of luck. Release and the magnifier carries on from where you left it rather than jumping back to the cursor.
• Arrow keys nudge exactly one pixel, for when you want to be certain.
• A Color picker tab in Settings with a rebindable shortcut, alongside the existing capture and
  GIF bindings. Automatic copying can be switched off there, and the format it copies set to HEX,
  RGB or HSL.
• Multi-monitor aware. It opens on the pixel your pointer is already over, shows nothing on
  the displays your pointer is not on, and Shift works on whichever monitor you are using.
• Click, Enter, or Space picks. Esc cancels.

The color window then opens on top of that, with the value as HEX, RGB, or HSL, live hue, saturation, lightness and alpha sliders, a row of related colors a click away, and the nearest color name. Everything — the preview, all three readouts, the name, the swatch row — updates while you drag a slider, not on release. You can also type a hex value, copy again in another format with the button or Ctrl/Cmd+C, and use Pick again to return to the screen without losing the color you already have — the window gets out of the way while you pick, so you can sample the pixels it was covering.

The color reported is the pixel of Capturo's own tone-mapped capture, so it matches what a screenshot of that pixel would contain, including on an HDR display. Because the desktop is frozen when the picker opens, a color cannot be picked out of a playing video — reopen the picker to sample the current frame.

Windows

Built on a Windows 11 x64 host. Capturo-Setup-0.21.0-x64.exe is the installer; Capturo-Portable-0.21.0-x64.exe needs no install.

Windows binaries are not code-signed. Capturo has no Authenticode certificate, so SmartScreen shows an unknown-publisher warning on first run. Verify the checksums below before trusting a download.

Copy text and HDR-correct capture remain Windows-only: both run through the native Windows helper.

macOS

Not in this release. Capturo 0.21.0 is Windows x64 only.

macOS work has moved a long way — capture, annotation, save, clipboard, GIF, the menu-bar flow and
the permission flow all work on Apple Silicon — but the macOS build carries changes these Windows
artifacts do not, so shipping it under this version number would mean two binaries called 0.21.0
that behave differently. It follows in the next release instead.

⚠️ Capturo still has no Apple Developer ID certificate, so any macOS build here is ad-hoc signed. macOS will refuse to open it after download with "Capturo is damaged and can't be opened" — that is Gatekeeper's response to an un-notarized download, not a corrupted file. macOS also ties the Screen Recording permission to the exact build, so an ad-hoc signed Capturo asks for it again after every upgrade. A notarized build remains the fix and the blocker for real macOS support.

Local rebuilds will not reproduce these digests. electron-builder embeds build timestamps, so packaging is not byte-reproducible; a differing digest is not evidence of a source difference.

Verification

165 automated tests, typecheck, and production build pass.
