AzTech PRador 0.10.9

@mtomorowicz mtomorowicz released this 18 Oct 07:57
  • Half the requests to Azure DevOps. Azure DevOps was never close to its limit, but the app asked it the same things several times a minute. The PR list and the background checks for new PRs, review requests and replies now share one read of the project's active PRs. The open PR's comments are refreshed in one request instead of up to three. Your own PRs' checks take one request instead of two. News from the background checks can come up to 45 seconds later; the list itself is as fresh as before.
  • When Azure DevOps asks the app to slow down, the app waits as long as Azure DevOps says (usually a minute) and sends it nothing until then, as it does for GitHub. The list says so, and until when.

  • GitHub's hourly limit lasts. "GitHub's limit is used up" came up more and more: the app was using up the hour's allowance in about 20 minutes, then waited for the rest of it. Reading a PR's comments cost a hundred times what it should, because it asked who liked every comment there could be. The check for replies and resolved threads did that for each PR you review or created every two minutes. A comment read now asks just how many likes there are, and who only for the comments that have some. The background checks don't ask about likes at all. The app now uses a small part of the hour's allowance, leaving room for other tools signed in to GitHub as you.
  • A short GitHub limit is a short wait. When GitHub asks the app to slow down for a moment, the app waits as long as GitHub says, usually a minute, not until the hour's limit resets.

  • Reload one side. With Azure DevOps and GitHub both listed, each section's bar has its own reload button: it reads just that provider's PRs and builds again and leaves the other's as they are (a big GitHub organization takes a while, and counts against GitHub's hourly limit). The refresh button at the top still reads both.
  • The second check looks like the app. Pushing from fix mode, completing (merging) a PR, setting it to complete on its own and abandoning (closing) one still ask a second time, as a safeguard the app's main window can't answer for you. That second question is now a small window drawn like the app's own dialogs instead of Windows' plain message box: what will happen, the particulars, then Cancel (Esc) and the action (Ctrl+Enter).

  • A PR you complete leaves the list at once. Completing (merging) or abandoning (closing) a PR takes it off the list as soon as the provider takes the change, instead of a few seconds later. Azure DevOps can still list it as active while it finishes the merge: it stays off meanwhile, and comes back only if the merge fails.
  • A default merge type for each provider. In Settings, Azure DevOps and GitHub each have a Default merge type: the one Complete… (Merge… on GitHub) starts on. Azure DevOps now starts on Squash commit, and GitHub on Create a merge commit, until you change them. You can still pick another type for each PR.
  • Behind the scenes: the app's tests no longer touch the list of apps Windows starts when you sign in. A test run could remove the entry of a copy run from source, the developers' own; the installed app's was never affected.

  • A roomier title bar. The title bar is a little taller and its buttons have more space around them. The red count on the bell (and the reviews count) sits apart from its icon instead of crowding it, and a thin line separates the app's buttons from the window's own.

  • Azure DevOps and GitHub stand apart in the list. With both listed, each section's header is a band in its provider's colour (blue for Azure DevOps, grey for GitHub, as in Settings), with a thin bar down its left side and the provider's icon in that colour. There's more room before GitHub's section too.

  • Azure DevOps and GitHub together. Pick Azure DevOps and GitHub in the title bar's provider menu, and the PR list shows both, each in a section of its own (its header stays in view as you scroll): Azure DevOps on top, GitHub below, each with its count, showing as soon as it's read and folding away on its own. Each side keeps its own project or organization, with a switcher for each in the title bar (the provider menu beside them shows just its icon). Needs me, All active, the filters and the search work across both, and the repository menu groups the repositories by side. A PR you open uses its own provider's words and votes, whichever side you picked last. Notifications (new PRs, review requests, replies, your own PRs) and the morning summary cover both sides too. If one side can't be read, its section says why and the other carries on.
  • A narrow review panel stays tidy. Drag the review panel narrow and the tab names give way to icons, the tabs close up and the model button shrinks, rather than running under the buttons beside it. The diff keeps some room: the panel stops widening before the diff gets too narrow (and narrowing it from there, by mouse or keyboard, moves it at once), and the diff's toolbar no longer spills over the panel.
  • The repository count follows the list. The number next to All repos counts the repositories of the PRs shown, so it changes with the filters and the search.
  • Easier on GitHub's hourly limit. GitHub lets an account make only so many requests an hour (other tools signed in as you count too). The app now reads every PR of a GitHub organization only when you watch one of its repositories for new PRs, and on Needs me reads build checks just for the PRs that need you. If the limit is used up anyway, the list says so and until when, and the app waits until then instead of asking again.
  • Submodules are left alone. A submodule in a PR is another repository's commit, not a file: its diff now says which commit it points at (and which before), and nothing in it is read. With Blame on, it no longer says it couldn't read who changed the lines, and reviews are told it's a submodule.

  • A wider review panel. In the Split layout, drag the review panel's left edge to make it wider or narrower (with the keyboard too: focus the edge and use the arrow keys). Double-click the edge for its default width. The width is kept, like the PR list's and the file list's.
  • The PR list remembers where you were. The tab you were on (Needs me or All active) and the repository you picked are kept when you restart the app. Each project keeps its own repository pick, and one that's gone goes back to All repos.

  • A long PR list shows sooner. A list with many PRs, such as a big GitHub organization's, used to stay empty until all of it and its builds had been read. Now the newest PRs show as soon as the first of them come, with Loading more PRs… under them, and the rest join them as they come. Builds no longer hold the list up: they appear on the rows as they're read. Refreshing a list you already see still updates it all at once.

  • Files from Azure DevOps. Under Files, the row with Add files… now says how many files are attached in Azure DevOps, to the PR and to its linked work items ("3 in Azure DevOps"). Unfold it and Add the ones the review should read: no need to download them yourself first. A kind a review can't read, such as a picture, can't be added.
