Page Color (View ▸ Page Color) — recolors the page for comfortable reading, without touching the document. Copying, exporting and printing all keep the original colors, and the choice is remembered across launches
- Dark inverts the page onto PDFKit's dark paper (#1E1E1E), the same color Preview uses
- Charcoal does the same on a slightly lighter, slightly warmer paper (#2C2C2B), for documents set entirely from the K plate
- Sepia, Orange and Gray tint the paper and leave the ink alone
- Inversion preserves hue, so a hyperref link stays blue and a red TikZ rule stays red. On macOS 26 and later the work is handed to PDFKit itself — the facility behind Preview's Use Dark Appearance for PDF — so embedded photographs stay positive
- Every preset keeps a WCAG AAA (7:1) contrast ratio between ink and paper
- With Normal selected, no layer filter, no overlay layer and no observers are installed: the feature costs nothing when it is off
Standard macOS find keys — Cmd + G / Shift + Cmd + G step through matches whether or not the search bar is focused, and Cmd + E searches for the current selection and shares it through the system find pasteboard
Match Case in the search bar, applying to plain and regular-expression searches alike
Navigation history — Cmd + [ / Cmd + ] return to where you were before following a link, clicking a bookmark or annotation, jumping to a search match, or running a Forward Search. The same keys Preview uses

The hidden Opt + J / Opt + K page aliases are gone. Every command is now a single, uniquely titled menu item, which is what lets you rebind any of them yourself — from System Settings ▸ Keyboard ▸ App Shortcuts, from defaults write ... NSUserKeyEquivalents, or with Karabiner-Elements. Vim-style navigation is documented in the README and on the site
Regular-expression search is no longer forced to be case-insensitive; the Match Case checkbox decides

The .pkg installer no longer relocates itself onto another copy of the bundle found elsewhere on disk, and no longer skips its payload when that copy is newer. It installs what it carries, into /Applications

Apple notarized and signed with Developer ID. The application bundle carries a stapled notarization ticket of its own, so the first launch works without a network connection
On macOS 25 and earlier, Dark / Charcoal fall back to a layer filter: embedded images are inverted too, the paper color cannot be set (so Charcoal looks like Dark), and text is rasterized at the current zoom level. The paper tints are unaffected
Homebrew 6 and later only loads casks from non-official taps after you trust them. If brew install --cask munepi/galley/galley is blocked, run brew trust munepi/galley/galley first
Installing from the disk image? galleypdf is optional and lives inside the bundle. Add it to your PATH with export PATH="/Applications/GalleyPDF.app/Contents/MacOS/bin:$PATH", or link it with sudo ln -sf /Applications/GalleyPDF.app/Contents/MacOS/bin/galleypdf /usr/local/bin/galleypdf
