OpenPaint v2.0 Release Notes
OpenPaint v2.0 is the first major release in over a decade. It finally brings the main features, stability fixes, and build improvements together into a release that feels much more complete and ready to use.
What’s New
- Better selection tools, including improved free-form selection and animated selection outlines.
- A clearer name for the lasso tool: “Free-form Select.”
- New size picker controls for tools like pencil, eraser, brush, spray can, shapes, and text.
- Visual brush tip buttons, making it easier to choose the brush shape.
- Better tab controls, including close, close others, close all, split tabs, and support for pinning and locking tabs.
- Improved zoom and scrolling behavior.
- Better resource loading so icons and other files are found more reliably.
Fixes and Improvements
- Fixed a crash that could happen when closing the app on Linux.
- Fixed issues with zooming and resizing that could cause hangs or bad behavior.
- Improved stability around selection, drawing, and painting.
- Improved support for newer wxWidgets versions.
- Cleaned up build files and release workflows.
- Improved Windows and macOS build setup.
- Added more tests across the board.
