Usage

create-py-app automatically sets up a new python project structure for you.

Usage: create-py-app.exe <COMMAND>

Commands:
  create
    -n, --name <NAME> # REQUIRED
    -p, --python-version <PYTHON_VERSION> # OPTIONAL
    -v, --vcs-platform <VCS_PLATFORM> # OPTIONAL

    -h, --help

Options:
-h, --help Print help (see more with '--help')
  -V, --version Print version

Features

  • Ability to specify python version (with validation to check if it's a valid python version)
    • Gives warning if it's not, doesn't exit.
  • Ability to specifiy -v, for what version control .git[hub, lab] we want to use. -v 'gitlab' or -v 'github'

Refactors / Changes

Template

Big updates to standard template to make it much better

  • Enums for exit codes
  • Requirements-dev.txt
  • Improvements for console logger (previously called user_logger) & regular logger. They are now classified as two different loggers, so the root logging level is handled compeltely differently from the console logger. This is to prevent conflicts where we want to filter our root logger to show, for example, only debug messages, but we want all messages from console logger to still be visible in the console.
  • const.py now flows better & makes more sense
  • There is now a unit test directory where we have an example (but working) test for logger using pytest.

Documentation

  • For compiling apps on Windows
  • Next round, beta 3, will likely include steps for getting this working on POSIX systems.

The first initial release & feature-set of create-py-app.

Usage

create-py-app automatically sets up a new python project structure for you.

Usage: create-py-app.exe <COMMAND>

Commands:
  create
    -n, --name <NAME> # REQUIRED
    -p, --python-version <PYTHON_VERSION> # OPTIONAL

help Print this message or the help of the given subcommand(s)

Options:
-h, --help Print help (see more with '--help')
  -V, --version Print version

Running the installer provided in the release will add the create-py-app command to your PATH. You can then run the command from anywhere on your system.

Currently, this version only supports running in the directory you want to create the project in. It will generate a directory named whatever you passed in for --name with all of the content pre-populated for you. Future versions will support specifying a directory to create the project in.

Examples

Usage: create-py-app.exe create --name <NAME> --python-version <PYTHON_VERSION>

# explicit
create-py-app create --name my-new-app --python-version 3.8

# auto-discover python version
create-py-app create --name my-new-app

Installation

Go to the releases tab & select the latest release. Download the installer, 'create-py-app-installer.exe', run it. The installer will add the create-py-app command to your PATH & install the necessary files to your system.
