Cacophonics 1.0.7
V1.0.7 very minor tweak to make the menu neater - words "Check for" were removed
Cacophonics! - Many radios, one phone
Listen to a mix of up to six Icecast2 streams and OpenWebRX+ receivers at once,
with each source's tag on screen (where provided), and on Bluetooth capable car
stereos.
Highlights
Six sources, any mix of Icecast2 and OpenWebRX+, each with volume and mute.
Tag display, and Bluetooth / car "N: tag" metadata. Works with Android Auto, but does not need it.
Tag lockout for Icecast streams, squelch for OpenWebRX+ analog modes, and digital voice modes.
Receiver check at start. All streams stop if the Bluetooth connection is lost.
Android 5.0 and newer. Free software, GPL v3.
Known gaps
Stream passwords are stored unencrypted on the phone.
Plain http/ws connections are allowed (most Icecast and OpenWebRX+ servers use them).
Some digital voice modes and Android Auto behaviour have had limited testing.
Install:
download app-release.apk, allow "Install unknown apps" when asked, and open it.
Cacophonics 1.0.6
Cacophonics 1.0.6
What's new
-
Check for updates: a new entry in the menu. It asks GitHub for the newest release and tells you whether a newer version exists, with a Download button. It contacts GitHub only when you choose it.
-
The delete-all warning is now a hazard-striped CAUTION box.
Press and hold its red button until it fills to confirm; let go early or tap Go back to cancel. -
Press and hold the GO / STOP sign to bring that box up.
-
The menu no longer has a "Back" entry.
Also in recent versions
- Squelch on OpenWebRX+ analog sources starts fully closed.
- Wideband FM (WFM) plays on OpenWebRX+.
- Separate port boxes for OpenWebRX+ and Icecast; port 443 uses https automatically; domain names work.

What's new
Feature suggestion (thanks Bernie!)
- Press and hold the GO / STOP sign to delete all stream data. A CAUTION box appears, and you must press and hold its red button to confirm (or tap Go back).
- The menu no longer has a "Back" entry; tap outside it to close it.
- Squelch on OpenWebRX+ analog sources starts fully closed, so nothing is heard until you slide it open.
- Port 443 uses https automatically, and addresses can be an IP or a domain name.
- Wideband FM (WFM) plays on OpenWebRX+.
Notes
- OpenWebRX+ sources play in mono. Icecast streams keep whatever the server sends, including stereo.
- Tested on Android 10 (car stereo) and Android 17 (Pixel 9a).
Install:
Download app-release.apk, allow installs from unknown apps when asked, and choose "Install anyway" if
Play Protect warns that the app is from an unknown developer. This version installs over earlier releases
and keeps your settings.

Cacophonics 1.0.2
Version 1.0.2 Changes:
1) Slight tweak to the settings UI for consistency.
Both receiver types now have one field for
IP address / FQDN and one for port number
2) WFM functionality wasn't working on OpenWebRX+
broadcast listeners wouldnt hear WFM due to selection of the wrong
audio stream (my bad!) I should also note that OWRX+ WFM feeds are mono
from source not Stereo - icecast sources are stereo so if you use icecast feeds
with DSD+ you will hear both slots!
The latter requires user verification as I live within
line of sight of two major BAND II FM masts and have
88-108MHz filtered to death!
