Release list
Notis testnet v0.3.1
Testnet packages for Notis — an invite-only decentralized social network. Everything defaults to testnet and connects to notis.fun.
No reset
This release keeps the testnet chain that began with 0.3.0 — identities, rep, posts and names carry over. Upgrading a node from 0.3.0: install over it and restart; the data directory stays. No protocol byte moved: the node, its networking and the wire format are 0.3.0's.
The browser extension
Notis now ships as a browser extension — the same client as the extension's own page, your key held inside the extension and never by a website. Sending $NOTIS always asks in a prompt window; rep actions sign silently while unlocked, or ask too if you choose so in settings.
Firefox (140 or later): click notis-extension-0.3.1-firefox.xpi below. It is signed by Mozilla through addons.mozilla.org's unlisted channel, so it installs in a release Firefox with no store page, and it updates itself from this repository's updates branch. At install Firefox shows what the extension sends — what you publish and your $NOTIS sends, under your public key. There is no telemetry, and the secret key never leaves the browser. Chrome: unzip notis-extension-0.3.1-chrome.zip and load it unpacked in developer mode.
Changelog
- Extension: the signing surface — the key in the extension's background, credits signed by hand and rep silently (#232); the prompt window (#234); a Notis link opens in the extension's workspace, by a setting or by the site's
add to workspace(#237); the Firefox build signed, self-updating, reproducible from source file for file —packages/web/extension/REVIEWERS.md(#238). - Web client: sending
$NOTISfrom the wallet, and the faucet's$NOTISstep (#233); the boxedsendand the status corner (#235); the profile cut into three windows — profile, wallet, settings (#236). - Faucet:
POST /faucet/credits(#233). - Packaging: the
.debno longer carries the tarball and the web zip (#231).

A local node's API answers at http://localhost:3000; the public client at notis.fun/web reaches the public node. On Windows, SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher — the installer isn't code-signed: More info → Run anyway.
Testnet — expect chain resets. x64 only. The miner runs at a low duty cycle by default (MINER_PCT). The .deb also ships a faucet service, left stopped — it needs a key you provide.
Notis testnet v0.3.0
Testnet packages for Notis — an invite-only decentralized social network. Everything defaults to testnet and connects to notis.fun.
Testnet reset
This release starts a fresh testnet chain — identities, rep, posts and names start over. Upgrading from 0.2.0: stop the node, delete its data directory, then start the new version. A node that keeps its old store cannot follow the new chain. The store is /var/lib/dagsocial/dagsocial.db (plus its -wal and -shm files) for the .deb, data/notis.db beside the tarball's launcher, and %APPDATA%\Notis\notis.db on Windows; the miner key file beside it can stay.
Changelog
- Protocol: the backer pool — genesis stakes, a capped per-block share of the coinbase, one-way unstake (#226). Posting is the only activity that holds rep against decay, and a self-like is refused (#225). Usernames — soulbound name boxes, one free claim, a burn,
@handlealiases wherever an identity is named (#213). - Validation: a payload binds its transition, the coinbase tail is one output at the block height, the body applies in committed order, the state-root check is unconditional, fork resolution holds each header page to its request and aborts on a refusal that is not a consensus verdict (#219–#223); the gossip validator refuses a header below the network's floor or off the schedule (#224).
- Node: the node serves no client — the demo UI is gone (#211, #212); every list row carries names and the shell carries the preview card (#216); the public API answers any origin (#227); a ban ends the connection (#228).
- Web client: ships as its own
notis-web-<ver>.zip, configured by three tags in its shell (#215); usernames (#214); markdown, links and images in posts (#203); the responsive workspace, the phone's header and back gesture (#204, #205, #208); deep links to a post (#206); like and link on feed cards (#207, #209, #210); the face says rep and $NOTIS (#218). - Docs: docs.notis.fun describes the tree (#217).

Notis testnet v0.2.0
Merge pull request #202 from mwaddip/testnet-genesis-pin Testnet's genesisId pins the new chain's block 1
Notis testnet v0.1.1
Testnet node packages for Notis — an invite-only decentralized social network. Grab the one for your platform, run it, and it connects to the notis.fun testnet and serves a local demo UI. Everything defaults to testnet — no configuration needed.
Changelog
- State store: AVL nodes are stored once and shared across versions instead of the whole tree per block; an existing store converts in place on first start (2.5 GB → 25 MB on the testnet box). (#184)
- A root prunes once: a prune of a stump or of an already-pruned post is refused at submit and at apply. (#182)
- Pruning an ancestor absorbs the stumps inside its subtree, so a thread carries one stump. (#182)
- A pruned post's tombstone reads its topology marks, and a reorg restores the marks exactly. (#182)
- Block creator: the settlement's fee-box order is the body's committed order, pinned by a test. (#182)
- Docs: the karma, economy and architecture pages describe the current mechanics. (#181, #183)
Upgrading from v0.1.0: install over the old version and keep your data directory. The node converts its store on first start and logs AVL store converted to shared nodes; it serves nothing until that finishes, so allow a couple of minutes on a slow disk.

Debian/Ubuntu | requires Node ≥ 22 | sudo dpkg -i dagsocial-node_0.1.1_amd64.deb — installs a systemd service. For a server; on a desktop, prefer the tarball. |
Windows
The installer creates three shortcuts (Desktop + Start Menu):
- Notis Node — a node that syncs the testnet and serves the demo UI.
- Notis Node (Miner) — the same, and it mines. Run it when you want to contribute hashrate; close the window to stop.
- Notis Demo UI — opens the demo UI in your browser (start a node first).
On first run Windows shows a SmartScreen "unknown publisher" warning — the installer isn't code-signed. Click More info → Run anyway.
Linux (tarball)
tar -xzf notis-node-0.1.1-linux-x64.tar.gz
cd notis-node-0.1.1-linux-x64
./run.sh # a syncing node + demo UI
./run-miner.sh # the same, plus the minerThe demo UI
Served by your node at http://localhost:3000. It uses your local node for the chain and the shared faucet at notis.fun/testnet for test karma and credits.
Testnet — expect chain resets. x64 only. The miner runs at a low duty cycle by default (set MINER_PCT to change it). The .deb also ships a faucet service, left stopped — it needs a key you provide.
Notis testnet v0.1.0
Testnet node packages for Notis — an invite-only decentralized social network. Grab the one for your platform, run it, and it connects to the notis.fun testnet and serves a local demo UI. Everything defaults to testnet — no configuration needed.
