CartoLite 0.19.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 02:50
bdab1a8

Chronoscope is a new way to watch the mesh: geographic groups sit on a Now plane while traces of recently observed packets recede through time.

  • Sculpture, Slice and Flat: rotate the time volume, freeze it, or inspect a narrow moment. Choose a 30, 60 or 120 second window.
  • Useful inspection: select regions, find nodes, inspect confirmed segments and follow fresh activity. Observer-only receptions stay local; gaps are never filled with invented routes.
  • Shared controls: appearance, route presets, packet sounds and the compact phone view picker work across the existing views and Chronoscope.
  • Long-session fixes: update MapLibre's worker/terrain resource handling, stop hidden-tab feed/render work, and recover with fresh state without catch-up animations or sound.
  • Terminal recovery: restore exact semantic colours after a failed graphics initialization so the character map does not lose water detail.
  • Runtime maintenance: update Go's certificate-validation security fixes while preserving the non-root, read-only container and traffic API v2.

Open Chronoscope. It starts with an empty activity window and fills from packets received while the page is open. Freeze and Slice inspect that bounded session window; they are not a server-side archive. Depth is time, not radio altitude or a measured radio trajectory.

Updating

Refresh an existing browser tab to load the new frontend. Saved preferences remain in place. The Canada Android wrapper opens the live service; Android 1.1.3 separately adds Chronoscope to its start-view, share and restoration options.

The release manifest identifies the tested source and image digest. The release workflow promotes that digest without rebuilding. Screenshot provenance and checksums accompany the release assets.

CartoLite Android 1.1.3

@n30nex n30nex released this 24 Oct 02:54
bdab1a8

The Canada Android app now recognizes Chronoscope as a starting view, restores it as the last view, and shares its link correctly. Loading labels and recovery tests include the new page.

  • Version 1.1.3, version code 5.
  • Package remains org.canadaverse.cartolite.
  • Signed with the existing release certificate; install over the existing app to keep settings.
  • The APK is the exact successful main Actions candidate, signed without rebuilding.
  • Shell, navigation and recovery checks passed on Android API 26 and 36 emulators. This release has not been tested on a physical device.

The live Canada web views update independently of the APK. Map, Netgraph, Terminal and Chronoscope remain available through the web dock; native options stay in the app menu.

Download the APK and matching SHA-256 file below. manifest.json, package.txt and signature.txt record the source revision, package identity and signing certificate.

CartoLite 0.18.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Oct 06:25

0.18.0 — Make Terminal your own

Terminal gets its own appearance editor inside Display, with BBS, Amber, Green, CGA, EGA and Cel-shaded presets.

  • Customize 33 colours covering geography, nodes, labels, traffic and controls, using a picker, hex values or hue/saturation/lightness sliders.
  • Choose system mono, Typewriter, VT323 console or Silkscreen pixel fonts. Adjust map text size, weight and interface scale.
  • Use Braille, ASCII, pixel-block or cel-shaded geography, with glowing characters or smooth live packets. Exact network strokes stay above the map.
  • Tune background brightness and live glow independently. Existing route presets, advanced styling and sound choices remain available.
  • Save a Terminal profile on this device and synchronize Terminal tabs. Its layer/display settings are independent from Map and Netgraph. Reset controls and a readable editor remain available with custom colours.
  • Fix stale route pixels in Safari, early Find refresh and graphics-context recovery in 3D, while retaining the dense-network responsiveness limits.

Fresh Terminal defaults match the selected configuration: routes/live packets/heatmap/labels/roads/buildings on; clusters/regions/Topo/3D off; 15-minute links; 15% Topo shading; fine BBS Braille; Spectacle, Complete detail, High graphics, system motion, standard text and Neon routes. Saved Terminal customizations remain.

Fonts and their OFL licences are bundled locally. Packet progression, audio timing, public API v2 and route interpretation are unchanged.

Verification

Exact-main validation passed 235 frontend tests and 374 browser cases without retries, alongside Go and Android API 26/36 checks. The 7,000-route terrain case completed in 932 ms under the unchanged 2,000 ms limit; its longest measured work slice was 6.1 ms under the 100 ms limit.

Release promotion promoted the tested image without rebuilding. All three canonical checksums and image provenance were verified.

The exact image is live in Canada. A fresh encrypted off-host backup passed its decrypt/reupload check, and an isolated restore recovered 3,902 nodes and 8,629 routes without networking, MQTT or public ports. Configuration, container hardening and the data volume were preserved.

All 201 deployed-browser checks passed without retries. Three healthy observations over 1,062.6 seconds verified advancing live traffic and checkpoints, with zero drops or restarts. Final memory use was 66.77 MiB of the preserved 256 MiB limit. Public traffic privacy, HTML integrity and the decorative embed were checked separately.

Android 1.1.2 remains unchanged; this release updates its hosted web views. No physical device acceptance or new signed APK is claimed.

The roadmap also records the supplied visual audit. Selected-node framing and readable duration labels are next; the broader inspector, scope and overview packages remain planned.

Preview

These current Actions captures use synthetic traffic. Preset comparisons use a saved 24-hour link window; the fresh Terminal default is 15 minutes. Hashes are in UI-SCREENSHOTS-SHA256SUMS.

0.17.4 — Clearer controls and help

The second UI/UX roadmap package improves the controls around the existing scenes.

  • Help & controls is available from Display on desktop and the compact View menu on phones. It explains live versus historical activity, observer-only pulses, 3D, Follow and keyboard controls. Back/Escape preserve node selection.
  • Terminal shows its own palette/character controls and keeps ordinary Map style and interface settings saved for the other views.
  • Netgraph shows active region/focus filters and hidden routes even when menus are closed. Clear filters keeps route visibility and the saved region layout.
  • Browse all 31 voices with Previous/Next without enabling audio. Preview remains explicit, M mutes outside input fields, and Mute stays at the top of Sound settings.
  • A delayed browser audio resume can no longer undo a mute or start a cancelled preview.
  • Labs Display contains only controls used by its scenes. Explicit High quality overrides automatic economy within existing device caps, and help includes the current experiment.

No new dependencies, traffic fields, backend endpoints or native APK. Packet timing, route meaning, sound voices and stored preferences are preserved.

Verification

Exact-main CI passed 229 frontend tests and 357 browser cases without retries, plus Go, integration, privacy/security, performance and Android API 26/36 gates. The PR run needed one permitted retry for the existing dense Terminal performance scene; the exact-main run passed that same gate on its first attempt. No limits were changed.

Release promotion reused the tested image without rebuilding. Canonical checksums and image provenance were verified. All builds, tests and screenshots ran in Actions with synthetic traffic. The remaining roadmap phases are planned, not part of this release.

Canada is deployed and qualified: 188 public browser checks passed without retries. An encrypted off-host backup and isolated restore preceded deployment. Three healthy observations over 325.8 seconds confirmed advancing traffic and checkpoint writes with zero drops or restarts. Public identity, fresh sanitized traffic and decorative embed integrity passed. Product-page live checks also passed; the original Android 1.1.2 download is unchanged.

0.17.3 — Navigation and recovery fixes

First package from the end-to-end UI/UX audit
and updated phased roadmap.

  • Find refreshes late-loading and newly connected nodes without losing keyboard selection.
  • Back closes About instead of leaving Map or Terminal; Escape preserves the selected node.
  • Dismissed map errors stay quiet for the same problem category, with Retry and a direct Netgraph fallback.
  • Empty Netgraph explains filtering/window states and offers scoped recovery actions.
  • Follow keeps Hold, close, Next and Inspect reachable on short landscape screens.
  • Labs pause/reset/resume feedback stays readable, with focused screen-reader announcements instead of a per-packet queue.
  • Existing Android 1.1.2 receives the hosted fixes; no new APK or signing identity.

Packet/audio timing, confirmed topology, saved settings and privacy remain unchanged. Hard build-size caps remain removed; runtime, performance and security checks remain. The remaining roadmap phases are planned.

Verification and preview

Canada 0.17.3 is deployed using the exact tested image. Main CI passed 224 frontend tests, 321 browser scenarios and Android API 26/36. All 161 deployed browser checks passed without retries. After encrypted backup and isolated restore, three observations over 369.4 seconds confirmed advancing traffic/checkpoints and zero drops or restarts. Physical-device testing is not claimed.

The release promotes the exact Actions-tested image without rebuilding. Canonical checksums and image identity are attached. Screenshots use synthetic traffic; their hashes are in UI-SCREENSHOTS-SHA256SUMS.

0.17.2 — Clearer, brighter Terminal activity

  • Dim background water, land textures and roads so the network stands out.
  • Preserve strong route colours at dense zooms and give node markers a clear,
bold silhouette. Labels sit above live effects.
  • Add bounded, coloured glow and white-hot character cores to live activity.
Preserve colour in faint trails and fade using the original packet frame.
  • Respect Spectacle, Calm, Minimal, graphics quality and reduced motion.
  • Remove hard frontend, worker, geography and container build-size ceilings by
owner request. Report sizes; retain asset integrity/isolation, runtime timing,
7,000-route, privacy, security and installation checks.

Live packet timing, audio, route meaning and saved preferences are retained.
The Canada Android app receives the hosted update without a new APK.

Verification and artifacts

All builds and automated checks run in GitHub Actions. The release promotes the exact tested image digest without rebuilding. See the attached manifest and SHA256SUMS for immutable identity and downloadable installer files.

CartoLite 0.17.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Oct 15:15
24b177e

Terminal maps keep more of the landscape: vegetation and built-up areas now have subdued textures, roads are clearer, and thin routes no longer disappear between character samples. Bright packets no longer colour a whole background cell.

Labels use measured text widths, distinguish node names from place names, and try positions above or below a node when space is tight. Large screens get a finer grid within the same rendering limit.

Live traffic, packet and sound timing, layer choices, Find and inspection are preserved. The Canada Android app receives this web update without a replacement APK.

Validated in Actions: 222 frontend tests, 245 browser checks, Android API 26/36 compatibility and the existing 7,000-route performance gates. One WebKit navigation check passed on retry after an internal browser error. The release promotes the exact tested image without rebuilding; checksums and image provenance verified.

Terminal joins Map and Netgraph

  • A live ASCII/Braille map with a 90s BBS look: blue dotted water, pale coastlines and yellow place names.
  • ANSI colour, amber and green phosphor; three character sizes, saved on this device.
  • Live packets, Find, node/route inspection, layers, route windows, 10-second Follow, optional 3D and all existing sounds. Try the Dial-up voice for the full effect.
  • Compact phone navigation, shared node selection, keyboard-accessible controls and a recoverable graphics fallback.
  • Terminal loads only when opened. The existing API, route interpretation and container setup are unchanged.

Open /terminal/ or choose Terminal in the bottom menu. On phones, open the view picker first. Display settings contain the character and palette controls.

Open the Canada Terminal view.

Canada keeps its Labs experiences, with Terminal included in their view navigation. Android 1.1.2 adds Terminal to starting-view choices, last-view restoration and sharing. Signed Android release.

The release uses the exact Actions-tested image. Existing privacy, frontend-size and 7,000-route performance gates remain in place. The attached screenshots use synthetic traffic.

CartoLite Android 1.1.2

Terminal now appears in the app's starting-view choices and is remembered when reopening the last view. Sharing a Terminal view keeps the correct Canada URL.

The web view picker owns Map, Netgraph, Terminal and Labs navigation. Existing motion, sound and volume preferences are preserved. Install over 1.1.1 to keep app data.

Package: org.canadaverse.cartolite. The original signing certificate is unchanged. Android API 26 and 36 emulator checks are required before publication. This release has not been tested on a physical device.

CartoLite 0.16.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Oct 17:31
f1134ef

Phone navigation now uses one view picker and a compact row for Find, Layers, Follow, 3D and Sound. Enlarged text wraps the dock on the narrowest screens.

  • Netgraph puts region filters, route history and zoom tools in its Layers sheet.
  • Find and Sound have clear close buttons. Back dismisses menus and returns keyboard focus.
  • Search and sheets fit above the phone keyboard; inspector names and coordinates wrap.
  • Map details start collapsed, and complete map credits stay one tap away.
  • Existing themes, filters, routes, motion preferences and sound choices are preserved.

The public traffic API and packet/audio timing are unchanged. Validation and exact image links are recorded with the release artifacts.
Canada Labs uses the same compact view picker, keeps scene/Pause/Sound close at hand, and fixes the Loom legend stretching across the screen. Its captions and controls are clearer on phones.

The hosted UI update reaches the existing Android app when reloaded. The signed APK remains 1.1.1; no reinstall is needed for these web changes. No physical phone was used for this patch.

Exact-main CI passed 218 unit tests, 219 browser scenarios and seven native journeys each on Android API 26 and 36. One saved-3D startup timing check passed on its configured retry. Existing privacy, frontend-size and 7,000-route performance limits remain unchanged. The released image was promoted without rebuilding.
