Doggy Player v1.1.76
Seeking is now smooth on long videos, and the app got a round of safety fixes.
Seeking
- One press, one jump. Pressing an arrow key used to seek twice (once on
key-down, once on key-up), which replayed a fraction of a second and was heard
and seen as a stutter after every press. It now seeks exactly once. - Holding an arrow key scrubs smoothly. The picture follows the playhead at
the same speed as before and playback resumes when you let go. - Quick presses back and forth park the picture and resume once, a moment
after the last press, instead of restarting audio and video on every press. - Fixed an endless pause/play flicker that could appear after a quick seek, a
timeline click that left the video paused, and the timeline redrawing the whole
player 60 times a second. - Long films are no longer re-encoded in the background (it kept the CPU and
disk busy for tens of minutes and then swapped the video mid-play).
Safety and housekeeping
- The local media server now requires a secret per-run token and no longer
answers requests from other web pages. - File names are never passed through a shell when reading video length.
- Conversion caches are capped at 10 GB (oldest removed first) and leftovers from
interrupted conversions are cleaned up at start. An interrupted remux can no
longer leave a half-written file that is mistaken for a finished one. - Playback position is saved every 5 seconds and only the newest 500 are kept.
- Privacy: the anonymous once-a-day usage count can be switched off in Settings,
and is described in the README.

1.1.75
Doggy Player v1.1.75
Seeking now behaves like VLC: the jump is instant, with no audio/video
"vibration" at the start of a seek.
- No more stutter at the start of a seek. The player called
play()as soon
as it knew the track layout, before a single frame or audio sample existed.
Chromium then firedplay->waitingon every source swap, which is the
stall heard and seen right after each jump. Playback now starts when there
really is data, and for re-encoded streams only once the element can keep
playing. - Audio starts with the picture. The re-encode pipe asked FFmpeg for
-tune zerolatencyplus a zeroed interleave window, which pushed the first
audio packet about 0.4 s further into the stream: the picture started alone
and the sound caught up (the "vibration"). The first-audio offset dropped from
30 739 bytes / packet #20 to 21 045 bytes / packet #14. - Seeking becomes native. Files whose video codec Chromium cannot decode
(H.263, MPEG-4, MJPEG, WMV, ProRes, ...) are re-encoded once in the background
to a dense-keyframe H.264/AAC MP4 and cached; the player then switches to that
copy, so a seek no longer has to tear down and rebuild the streaming pipe. An
already cached copy is now adopted immediately on the next play, and the swap
never happens in the middle of a seek. - Exact seek positions. A pipe restart used to be rounded down to whole
seconds, which left the playhead up to 1 s away from the picture and made the
next relative seek start from the wrong place. It is now millisecond exact. - Also fixed: a source swap pauses the element on its own, and that pause could
clear the play state and silence a running video a few seconds later.
Measured on H.263 + AMR clips: on first play (through the re-encode pipe)
157-214 ms to a running picture with zero waiting events and audio already
decoded; on the cached copy 46-104 ms with no source reload. All 38 samples in
the format self-test play with picture and audio.

1.1.72
Doggy Player v1.1.72
Smoother, quieter seeking.
- Keyframe densification: Files that seek poorly are re-encoded once to a dense-keyframe MP4 and cached, so subsequent jumps are fast.
- Seek controller fixes: Rapid scrubbing and hold-to-seek no longer stack requests; the playhead stays with the picture.
- Vibration removal: Reworked the seek path so jumps no longer produce the audio "vibration" heard before.
- Automatic update: Installed apps receive v1.1.72 via the built-in updater.

1.1.69
Doggy Player v1.1.69
Fixes settings dropdowns that closed immediately so you could not change default speed or IPTV default quality.
What's Changed
- Settings menus stay open: Replaced fragile native
<select>controls with custom menus for language, default speed, and IPTV default quality. - Focus trap fixed: Settings overlay no longer steals focus on every video time update (which closed open dropdowns instantly).
- Auto-update for all platforms: Windows (
latest.yml), macOS (latest-mac.yml) and Linux (latest-linux.yml) are published to GitHub Releases.

1.1.68
Doggy Player v1.1.68
Fixes 1-second seek freezes on files that look like .mp4 but are actually MPEG-TS (or other unseekable containers).
What's Changed
- Detect real container format: Probes files with FFmpeg instead of trusting the file extension.
- Auto-remux for smooth seeking: MPEG-TS and similar containers are stream-copied once to a real MP4 with
faststart(keeps quality, ~a few seconds for ~1.5GB) and cached for next time. - Example:
AvratbazAbi14.mp4was MPEG-TS with an.mp4name — Chromium froze ~1s on every seek. After remux it seeks like a normal MP4. - Auto-update for all platforms: Windows (
latest.yml), macOS (latest-mac.yml) and Linux (latest-linux.yml) are published to GitHub Releases.

1.1.67
Doggy Player v1.1.67
Hotfix: removes the FFmpeg scrub-preview overlay that could freeze the picture while audio kept playing.
What's Changed
- Removed stuck image overlay: The v1.1.66 JPEG preview could remain on top of the video after seeking — picture frozen, audio still playing. That overlay is gone.
- Reliable resume after seek: Playback is forced to resume after seek completes so video and audio stay in sync.
- Simpler seek path: Debounced / last-wins seeking without covering the
<video>element. - Auto-update for all platforms: Windows (
latest.yml), macOS (latest-mac.yml) and Linux (latest-linux.yml) are published to GitHub Releases.

Doggy Player v1.1.66
This release attempted FFmpeg scrub previews for large-file seeking (superseded by v1.1.67).

Please update to v1.1.67.
1.1.66
Doggy Player v1.1.66
This release fixes freeze-on-seek for large/HQ videos when using arrow keys or the timeline.
What's Changed
- FFmpeg scrub preview: While holding ←/→ or dragging the timeline on local files, Doggy Player shows live JPEG frames from FFmpeg instead of freezing the
<video>decoder. - One real seek on release: The video element seeks only when you release the keys/mouse — no more stacked decode stalls on big files.
- fastSeek without pause-first: Single seeks use keyframe-fast seeking and no longer pause first (which made freezes more visible in v1.1.65).
- Auto-update for all platforms: Windows (
latest.yml), macOS (latest-mac.yml) and Linux (latest-linux.yml) are published to GitHub Releases.

Doggy Player v1.1.65
This release fixes freeze-on-seek for large and high-quality videos so scrubbing stays responsive across formats and file sizes.
What's Changed
- No more freeze when seeking: Playback pauses briefly during seek, then resumes — the decoder is no longer overloaded on big/HQ files.
- Direct disk playback for common formats: Local mp4/mkv/mov/webm and similar files now use
file://instead of HTTP Range streaming for much faster seeks. - Smarter seek queue: Rapid scrubbing and hold-to-seek coalesce into one in-flight seek (last-wins) instead of stacking decode jobs.
- Smoother timeline & arrow scrub: UI time updates immediately; media seeks less often while you drag or hold ←/→.
- Transcoded formats (avi, ts, …): Debounced FFmpeg restarts and cleanup of previous processes so seeks no longer pile up.
- Auto-update for all platforms: Windows (
latest.yml), macOS (latest-mac.yml) and Linux (latest-linux.yml) are published to GitHub Releases.
