kimo v3.0.0, built from main 2977b73 by GitHub Actions run 38555700432 (all builds and the publish job passed).

Downloads (each has a .sha256 file):

  • Linux x86_64 static: kimo-v3.0.0-linux-x86_64-static.tar.gz
  • Linux x86_64 glibc: kimo-v3.0.0-linux-x86_64-glibc.tar.gz
  • Debian/Ubuntu: kimo_3.0.0_amd64.deb (depends on ffmpeg)
  • Windows x64: kimo-3.0.0-windows-x86_64-setup.exe (per-user installer) and kimo-3.0.0-windows-x86_64.zip (portable)

All builds need ffmpeg and ffprobe on PATH. See the README for MCP client setup.

Tools: 327 registered tools. A flat tools/list returns 329 entries, which is those 327 plus the discovery tools search_tools and kimo_describe. The default grouped list has 17 entries.

What was checked by hand:

  • sha256 of all five files matches the published .sha256 files.
  • Static Linux binary (the tar.gz and the one inside the .deb are byte-identical): initialize and kimo_info report version 3.0.0, commit 2977b73. The bundled fonts are found.
  • Not checked by hand: the Windows files were hash-checked only. The installer was not run. CI ran the package smoke test for Windows. macOS has no binary.
  • The Windows installer is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen will show a warning.
  • The fuzz result in the README (6497 calls, 0 failures) comes from the project notes and was not re-run for this release.

kimo is a video editor with no GUI, built to be driven by an AI over the Model Context Protocol. Every feature is a tool call. Rust core, CPU only, tuned for a 2 GB machine.

What you get

  • 255 MCP tools covering editing, keyframes and expressions, masks and roto, text and graphics, 3D and relight, particles and physics, tracking, pro color, audio and export.
  • A grouped AI interface: tools/list returns 16 grouped tools (15.7 KB) instead of 255 (176 KB), 11.2x smaller, plus kimo_search and kimo_describe. Every tool is still callable by name; {"mode":"flat"} lists all 255.
  • Fuzzed: 255 tools, 9359 calls, 0 failures.

Headline features

  • Fracture glass: shards with physical motion, refraction, shutter-correct motion blur, damped impact core, and a hole fill (defocused pane or the layers below).
  • Frosted glass and magnifier: a backdrop pane effect with blur, refraction, bevel, dispersion, tint, edge light and lens magnify.
  • Particle physics: colliders (circle, rect, plane, layer silhouettes, following moving layers), friction, vortex, emission from a layer's silhouette and outline.
  • Tracking: point, planar, mesh and feature tracking, stabilize, camera solve, undistort, validation tools.
  • Color pipeline: primaries, wheels, curves, HSL, LUTs, ACES/ACEScct, ASC CDL, OCIO, HDR, grade node graphs, scopes, match_grade.

Honest limits

See FEATURES.md for tiers. Known slow spot: follow colliders on a moving title cost about 1 s per 720p frame. GPU code is off by default with a CPU fallback.

Install

Download kimo-v1.0.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz below (static x86_64 Linux binary, about 10 MB, first MCP reply in about 2 ms), unpack, and point any MCP client at kimo-mcp. Needs ffmpeg and ffprobe on PATH. macOS and Windows: build from source (cargo build --release); no prebuilt binaries in v1.0.0.

SHA-256 of the tarball is in kimo-v1.0.0-SHA256SUMS.txt.
