Athan v1.0

Offline prayer times, athan playback, and a qibla compass. No ads, no accounts,
no tracking, no network access at all.

Install

  1. Download athan-v1.0.apk below (you can do this on the phone itself).
  2. Tap it. Android will say it isn't allowed to install unknown apps from that
source — tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, go back, and
tap Install. This is the standard prompt for anything installed outside
the Play Store, and you only do it once.
  3. Play Protect may say "Unsafe app blocked" or offer to scan. That means it
has never seen this app before, not that it found anything. More details →
    Install anyway
    .
  4. On first run, set your location and allow notifications. If asked about
alarms & reminders, allow it — that is what lets the athan fire at the
exact minute instead of whenever the system gets around to it.

Requires Android 8.0 or newer. Download is about 6 MB.

In this release

  • Prayer times computed offline with the adhan library; calculation method and
madhab selectable, plus a ±120-minute manual adjustment
  • Per-prayer Sound / Vibrate / Silent, tapped on each row
  • Athan plays on the alarm stream, so it is audible with the ringer down, and
the athan window shows over the lock screen
  • Alarms use setAlarmClock, the one tier Doze never delays, and are re-armed
after each prayer, after a reboot, and after a timezone change
  • Optional heads-up 5, 10, or 15 minutes before each prayer
  • Qibla compass corrected to true north
  • The bundled athans are my own recordingsDeveloper athan 1 and 2 for
the daily prayers, Fajr athan for dawn. Well-known adhan audio is
copyrighted by the broadcasters and reciters who made it, so rather than ship
files I had no right to share, I recorded them myself. If you want a different
muezzin, the app lets you pick any file on your phone, any ringtone, or a
recording you download yourself (Settings → Athan Sound / More athan
    recordings
    ).
