Glass bends a picture of the wallpaper. The glass now bends a copy of the wallpaper through the scene's own lens = image, which is cheap: on an RTX A2000 the late frames with Bend on went from about 21% to 0.1%. This needs pleamar 0.4.28 (the update brings it). On the Glass page, X-Bend is the wallpaper copy and Live bend is the old live capture of the windows, both right under the Glass switch. Edge thickness goes up to 300%. Dome and Milk sliders (pleamar's dome: and milk:) apply to every glass and are saved with the other glass settings. Bend on lets the glass bend on one monitor only.

Two monitors. The bar has copies for two monitors (each at most two), not four. The media card belongs to the monitor it was grabbed on. Panels opened from a key ask the scene which copy is on which monitor only when that changes.

Corner dock and widgets. The corner dock holds the keyboard only while a dock icon is under the pointer or held, and on an empty workspace so it can be dragged. The desktop widgets' drag zone covers the whole surface while dragging. The corner dock blends into the frame like the notches. The Widgets page keeps the desktop clock and system monitor switches in step with the desktop editor.

Also. The Desk Clip tab cuts a long entry between characters, not inside one. The font list's arrow-up no longer skips two rows, and the Apply button shows Applying…. About finishes the Vitreus update after pleamar's binary swap relaunches the shell.

The bar on one or two monitors. Settings > Bar no longer has an "All" tile. It shows a tile for each monitor it finds, and you light one or two of them: the bar is on those. Pressing a lit tile lets that monitor go, one always stays, and a third cannot be added until one is let go. The shell now makes a copy for up to four monitors, so the bar can be on any two of three or four. A chosen monitor that is unplugged is left out until it is back. An older choice ("All", or one monitor) is read as before.

Island layout. The bar widens to fit the workspace marks, instead of letting them run into the title. The gap under the bar is the same as on the other edges: the extra 6 px is gone, and the original window gaps are no longer taken from the ones a frame layout had left behind.

Notches layout. The calendar's wings are as soft as the title panel's. The control center's drawer shrinks away at the end of closing, without the line that flashed there.

Sliders. Every slider in Settings is drawn like the Control Center's: a crooked pencil outline, the level shaded in with pencil, a pencil circle for the knob. That is Glass, Clock, Hyprland, Pleamar-WM, Display, Bar size and the Night mode warmth.

Also. The polkit agent keeps passwords that start with ? . The screen-sharing light lets go of the captures when the workspace you hopped to has nothing to copy. Updates keep your local edits as a patch before the reset, and do not carry an old single-monitor bar line over; uninstalling removes the vitreus-files link.

Bar size. Settings > Bar has a new "Bar size" slider, from 70 % to 100 %, under the layout tiles. It shrinks the bar on every layout (Island, the four frames and Notches): the strip, the pieces, icons, clock, texts and click areas. The panels and the thin frame keep their size, and the corner dock follows the bar. At 100 % nothing changes. Below it, windows still get the room the bar leaves them, under pleamar-wm and on Hyprland.

Settings, launcher and desk keys open on the monitor that has the focus under pleamar-wm. They went to whichever monitor had been used last.

The Settings ripple along the bar's edge only shows on the monitor where Settings is open, not on every monitor.

Files opens about 2.5× faster. It had grown to about 1.5 s to its first frame (v0.1.23 took 0.6 s); it takes about 0.6 s again. Every icon call carried the whole table of pencil drawings and the scene unfolded 168 tiles at start; now each call carries only the drawings it can show, a tile has one picture frame instead of two, the icons' resting wobble is written into their points, and the tile pool is 12 rows of 10. Tiles still tremble on hover (each stroke as a whole now). A window wide enough for more than ten columns gets bigger tiles instead of more of them.

The corner dock settles in the corner nearest the pill's middle, not the pointer: grabbing it by one end no longer sends it to the far corner.

Files: clicking away from the right-click menu no longer starts dragging the selection box as if the mouse were held down.

A new bar layout: Notches. Along the top, a thin frame with the bar in three small pieces of glass hanging from it: the workspaces on the left, the clock and window title in the middle, search, settings and the controls on the right. The panels that open from them (calendar, tray, player, the control centre) melt into the frame with their own wings, as the Desk does when you drag it up to the frame. The audio visualiser stands on the thin frame and overlaps the notches, and there is no hover tab under the title. Pick it in Settings > Bar > Bar position, where the layout has a new preview icon.

A corner dock. Pinned apps sit in a single row in a corner of the edge opposite the bar, as a pill of the shell's glass melted into the frame. Pull it by an icon or by the pill and it settles in the nearer corner (the one nearest the pill's middle, not the pointer); a click starts the app, a right click unpins it. Pin an app by right-clicking its row in the launcher.

Files grows up. Tabs, typed paths, multi-select with Ctrl/Shift click and a drag box, jobs that handle conflicts with progress and undo, Trash restore, a preview pane, richer search and properties, editable permissions, Recent and Starred places, Open With, compress and extract, and live folder updates.

Fixes. Fresh installs make the log folder so the shell can start; Files' close button closes its own window; Files floats under pleamar-wm too; the login screen uses the variable Space Grotesk the installer downloads; uninstall's sed range is fixed.

The visualiser no longer slows the glass when it is off or silent. Its 47 columns were always part of the glass, even with the visualiser off, which doubled what the glass costs to paint on an Intel iGPU (#7, found and measured by @jaslrobinson). Now the glass only carries the columns while one is tall enough to see, and only as many as the cols setting uses (12, 24 or 47). Measured headless on an Intel iGPU at 1920×1080: about 115 ms per frame before, about 60 ms with the visualiser idle.

24 columns by default (was 47). The cost of the glass while music plays grows with the number of columns and how tall they are, so the default is lighter; 47 is still on the slider, and a setting you have saved is kept. Lowering cols or hgt in Settings > Widgets is the way to make it cheaper still.

The launcher's second row of hints (windows, web, snippets, calc, packages) has straight dividers; they leaned more with each cell.

The login screen has the session badge under the password, a sharp wallpaper and a centred layout, and install.sh updates an older copy of the theme. README describes it.

A login screen. Vitreus now has a theme for SDDM in the lock screen's look: your picture arrives sharp and blurs into place, then a big clock, the date, your face and a glass password bar rise in, where each typed character is a random shape. A wrong password shakes the bar. Sleep, restart and power off are held for a second. install.sh offers it as a step (--no-login skips it; it needs sudo, and where SDDM already has a theme it asks before replacing it), or run sddm/install.sh [IMAGE] yourself with any picture (~/Downloads/greeter.jpg if there is one, else the banner). Try it first, with nothing installed: sddm/build-assets.sh /tmp/vitreus-greeter, then QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb sddm-greeter-qt6 --test-mode --theme /tmp/vitreus-greeter. Changing your picture in Settings changes it on the login screen too. It is a QML theme, since an SDDM greeter is a Qt program: it uses what SDDM already depends on (qt6-declarative), not Quickshell.

Files has search. The magnifier (or Ctrl+F) opens a field where the path was: what you type narrows the folder as you type, and Enter looks in the folders under it as well (eight deep, up to 500 finds; version control, caches and hidden folders are left out). The finds are the folder's own list, so they open, copy, cut and go to the Trash like anything else. Escape or going to another folder puts the folder back.

The wallpaper picker's cards. The name and details of the focused card are now over the foot of its picture, darkened a little, instead of a glass panel hanging under it (its edge made a visible kink). The darkening, and the picker's shade at the foot of the screen, are smooth: they were bands side by side with a line at every edge. A wallpaper's colour is now the hue that covers the most of it: a blue picture with orange roofs used to average to pink. Your wallpapers' colours are read again once, in the background, the first time; their hexagons are not remade. The name and IN USE badge take that colour, with a thin dark outline to stay readable on the picture.

Your own themes. Glass, Retro, UwU and Cyber are now files in themes/ (.toml: eleven colours, a typeface and how round the window corners are). Copy themes/_template.toml to ~/.config/pleamar/vitreus-themes/, change it, and it appears as a card on Settings > Theme, in a strip that scrolls when there are more than four. A file that cannot be read is named in a line under the cards and left out; the other themes are not affected. Python 3.11 or newer is needed to read them.

Files copies and pastes between windows. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V use the system clipboard (the kind the other file managers use), so a copy in one Files window pastes in another, and with Nautilus or Thunar. Dropping a file on the empty part of a folder now works; it used to be lost. A drop that changes nothing says so.

Files, a round of fixes. The list view showed only 14 rows however tall the window; its date and size columns overlapped. A start folder that does not exist falls back to Home. Back and Forward survive a folder that has gone, and a listing that arrives late no longer replaces the folder you moved to. Paste could crash the view if hidden files were toggled meanwhile. Nothing can be created or pasted into the Trash by key. Sorting by size puts folders by name. Properties no longer adds up the whole disk for Computer and follows links to folders. While a file is carried, the pin hint shows only when the pointer is over it, the folder area has its own hint, and a folder under the pointer is ringed.

Files opens sooner. Its list model is smaller again, so the scene compiles in about half the time.

Search installs packages. Type + and a name in the Search panel (SUPER + Space): +firefox searches the repositories with pacman, or with paru or yay if you have one, which looks in the AUR too. The exact name comes first, then the official repositories, then the AUR. What is installed already has a check mark in its badge, and each result has the repository and its description on a line under the name. Enter installs the package in a terminal window, where it can ask for your password or which of several to take, and a notification says whether it worked. On an installed package Enter only says it is already there. Packages is Arch only; elsewhere the panel says pacman was not found. It is the fifth cell of the second row of hints under the field.

Files opens sooner. The first frame now comes after about 520 ms instead of about 790 ms. Most of what Files spends starting is loading its scene, and most of the scene was the pencil icons, copied for every kind of file at every place one is drawn. The page outline that every kind of file shares is now written once, and the tiles and the lines share one icon, which halves the scene. Nothing is drawn differently.

The pencil no longer freezes. In Files, the pencil drawings of folders and files sometimes stopped boiling after a few frames when the pointer went straight from one tile to the next: the new tile's enter and the old one's leave came in one frame, and the leave won. Enter now wins, and hovering sets it right again after a moment.

Files shows pictures and videos. Thumbnails were never made (the folder they are kept in did not exist yet), and now they are. They are made six at a time instead of two, so a folder of photos fills in much sooner. Videos (mp4, mkv, webm and the rest) show a frame from their first seconds, taken with ffmpeg. A picture's frame is a plain, straight rectangle at rest, and under the pointer it is redrawn in pencil, the way the file icons are. The tiles no longer change the mouse cursor.

Files floats. On Hyprland the Files window now floats by default, with a window rule in hypr_vitreus.lua. Change or remove it in your own Hyprland config if you would rather tile it.

Installer. If pleamar is older than the 0.4.14 Vitreus needs, install.sh now stops instead of carrying on and installing a shell that will not load: say no to the update, or have it fail, and it ends with a message saying what to do. After a successful pleamar-update it reads the version again, and says so if an older pleamar is still first on the PATH.

Panels and widgets. The calendar's join to the frame has the same winged curve as the other panels. The control center, calendar, player and tray share one corner radius that follows the theme. The desktop widgets move to the top layer while the editor is open, so they can be dragged under pleamar-wm.

The README ends with a star history chart.
