OpenDot v0.1.0 (developer preview)
Developer preview. OpenDot is a free, open-source personal agent that runs on your own computer and uses your own ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan for the thinking. A Windows installer is attached below (unsigned preview); macOS and Linux can run it from source.
OpenDot is an independent open-source project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI or Anthropic.
What's in it
- Chat with your own companion. You pick its color, character and pet. Replies stream in.
- Sign in with ChatGPT. Model calls count toward your own plan. API keys, OpenRouter and local models are opt-in.
- Always on. Reminders, routines and scheduled work keep running while your computer is awake (
opendot service install). - Asks before it acts. Rules, approvals and a reviewer pass check every action. Deleting data in outside apps, spending money and security or password changes are never done for you.
- Budgets. Credits are metered per task and per day, with hard pauses when a limit is hit.
- Connectors. Gmail, Google Calendar and GitHub, using your own Google OAuth client.
- Local and private. Data lives in a SQLite file on your machine and secrets in the OS keychain. The API only listens on 127.0.0.1.
Install (Windows)
Download OpenDot_x64-setup.exe below and run it. The preview installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn you: click More info, then Run anyway. macOS is coming; any OS can run from source.
Run from source
Requirements: Python 3.12, uv, Node 20+ with pnpm, and a ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan.

cd ui && pnpm install --frozen-lockfile && pnpm build && cd ..
uv run --project daemon opendot serveThen, in a second terminal:
uv run --project daemon opendot openType the one-time code it prints into the page that opens, then sign in with ChatGPT.
Known limits
- The Windows installer is unsigned for now, and there is no macOS installer yet.
- Tested mostly on Windows. macOS and Linux pass CI but have seen little real use.
- Gmail and Calendar need your own Google OAuth client ("Desktop app"). The Connections screen walks you through it.
- This is early software. Please report bugs in Issues.
