• Nothing connects to the network on startup. A fresh install makes no outbound connection until you ask it to — the update check no longer runs on its own.

Added

• "Check for Updates on Startup" toggle in the Help menu (and command palette), off by default. Turn it on to have the app check the published releases when it starts. "Check for Updates" remains available at any time.
