The menu bar app: a Team window
The popover is a glance at what this Mac's person can act on. The person who looks after the team had to open the terminal for the rest: ai-usage report --devices, or DEVICES in the report. Now the menu bar app has a window for it, with the whole team on one screen, in the report's numbers.
- Opening it. Team Window… in the menu under the dot beside the popover's first line opens it, and so do
⌘Dwhile the popover is open and the ⤢ at the top of Usage. With only this Mac there is no team, and Usage already shows it whole, so none of them shows. - Usage. Each device against each subscription, grouped by tool, then the tokens no subscription covers, under No Quota, and TOTAL, as the terminal's DEVICES lays them out. A cell is shaded by its tokens, a step for every half of a tenfold below the largest, as in the terminal, so a bot's 2M still reads beside a laptop's 160M. Its tooltip says the cell in full: "build-01 · Codex bots: 131M in 7 Days · 46% of column · 84M this window". A subscription's name is in the color of its state. See Usage.
- Status. Each device's user, release, with ↓ when it is behind the latest, last report, the tools it reads, with × for a failing one, its tokens today and over 7, 30, and 90 days, and the report's NOTE, whole in its tooltip. The line at the top counts the devices, the errors, and the devices not reporting, as the terminal's status view does. See Status.
- Periods, shares, and sorting. As in the terminal,
1,7,3, and9pick the period,%switches Usage between tokens and each device's share of its column, andsswitches between Usage and Status; the buttons at the top do the same. A click on a heading sorts the rows, and TOTAL stays last; until then they are in the report's order, the most tokens over 7 days first. - A window like any Mac's. Its columns resize, it follows light and dark, and VoiceOver reads each cell as its tooltip does. It opens where it was last, at its size, and the app shows in the Dock while it or Settings is open.
The README's Menu bar app has both pictures, in dark and light.
Track: the ring for the team
The menu bar's ring shows what is left of the fullest window among the subscriptions logged in on this Mac. Settings, General, Menu Bar, has a new choice, Track:
- This Mac's Subscriptions, the default, is what the ring showed until now.
- The Team's has the ring follow every subscription of the team with a reading, bots' included, for the person who looks after them all. It turns orange and red, and shows the time until a window is back, as it does for this Mac's.
The Preview under it shows the ring as each choice draws it. Track changes the ring only: which windows send a notification is still the Subscriptions choice under Notifications.
Compatibility and upgrade
What to do. Nothing. Releases from v0.2.5 on install v0.6.0 within 15 minutes, and on a Mac the menu bar app updates with the binary and restarts into it. Track starts at This Mac's Subscriptions, so the ring shows what it did until you change it.
What changed. Only the menu bar app. The binary, the report and its JSON, and the snapshot are as in v0.5.1. The Team window lays out the report's team.matrix and team.devices, which this Mac's ai-usage works out from what its teammates already send, so they need not update for it, whatever release they run.
macOS 27. As the v0.5.1 notes say, an update that a run you start installs, such as ai-usage update or the app's Update button, costs no scheduled run. One that a scheduled run installs costs the next scheduled run, which any ai-usage you start, or the app's next read of the report, makes up.
State. Nothing changes in the state folder or the snapshot. Track is kept in the app's settings, beside what the menu bar shows.
Known limitations
- The Team window shows what the report has. Its cells and rows open nothing: for a device's or a subscription's details, use the popover or the terminal's report.
- Its numbers are the report the app reads every minute, so they are as fresh as that read, and a device's tokens as fresh as its last report.
- With The Team's, the ring can show a subscription that nobody on this Mac can do anything about, such as a bot's. Its notifications follow their own setting.
- The macOS 27 limitations of v0.5.1 stand: after a scheduled run installs a release, launchd still refuses the next scheduled run, and a run you start, or the app's next read of the report, makes it up.
