Hang with foot -- nvim + <C-z>

When starting foot with foot -- nvim, <C-z> hangs the neovim process. Restoring the process requires a SIGCONT, which is awkward. Maybe neovim could detect this and offer an easy way out, like in the linked issue?

Opening this as a discussion because I have no idea if neovim can even detect this. Could be an issue with foot itself. if it could be fully resolved on neovim's side, that'd be ideal.

There is nothing that can be done in Nvim about this.

I will note that if this command is not being manually typed (e.g. in a desktop file), you can make the command to launch Nvim be foot -- nvim +'noremap <C-z> <Nop>'. It won't prevent you from typing :suspend or anything, but it's something (I use a similar command when launching Nvim via Kitty).

I'll try opening a feature request on foot, but given that not even kitty supports this feature, I'm not really optimistic.

But, to be fair, this doesn't bother me too much, I don't have the habit of using <C-z> :p

Hey @zeertzjq (apologies for the ping!), the foot maintainer shared some insight: this can be handled on nvim's side, by checking "If there's no parent shell process and only the session leader is running" / getpid() == getsid(0).

test/functional/fixtures/tty-test.c already uses this logic (there's a TODO about windows support). Would such a solution be desirable here? If so, should it be contributed to vim first?

My idea was raising an error on <C-z> / :stop / :suspend.

I don't think that's desired. Nvim should not assume that the terminal emulator cannot resume the session leader, as the Nvim builtin terminal can do that :)
