Compose runtime lifecycle
A new reference, compose-runtime-lifecycle.md, covers two Compose behaviours that raise no error (#115, from #114 by @ssenkus):
- A service in a disabled profile survives
docker compose down,up --remove-orphansanddown --remove-orphans, so a service you stop enabling keeps running. Remove it withdocker compose --profile '*' downordocker compose down <service>. The behaviour holds when Compose reads the compose file;docker compose -p <name> downwithout-fremoves every container of the project. - Logging drivers deliver in blocking mode unless
mode: non-blockingis set, so a stalled remote endpoint such asawslogsstalls the application once the driver's queue is full. Non-blocking mode drops lines instead, but stop and restart still wait on the endpoint, and a broken log setup no longer fails the deploy.
A new eval, compose-profile-retire, checks that the skill explains and fixes the profile case.
Container runtime and CI testing
- On
php:8.5images OPcache is built into the core anddocker-php-ext-install opcachefails, so a Dockerfile for 8.3 to 8.5 guards that step; a tmpfs mounted on a parent path hides a volume below it in the same service (#109). - busybox
diff -rreports nothing for a directory that exists on one side only; compare the directory lists next to the checksums (#111). - An absence check needs a positive control that proves the probe can find the thing it reports missing (#112).
- After
timeoutarounddocker compose run, the container keeps running when its PID 1 ignores the signal or does not pass it on; the process to stop has to be the direct child of whatever sends the signal. In busyboxsh -cstrings,${PIPESTATUS[0]}aborts withbad substitution(#97 by @aseemann).
