🗂️ Networks & Volumes, and a Service page that speaks container CLI 1.4
Networks and Volumes in the sidebar
Two new reorderable sections list the container service's networks (subnet, attached containers, builtin badge on default) and volumes (real disk usage read from the sparse backing image — "68 MB used of 512 GB" — mounting containers, anonymous badge for image VOLUME leftovers). Each has a detail page, a context menu (Create Container on This Network… / with This Volume…, copy subnet/gateway/name, reveal the backing file, delete) and Prune Unused… from the section header. Delete is disabled while the resource is in use, with the reason shown — the CLI locks a volume while any container references it, even a stopped one, so volumes report mounted / attached / unused.
Look inside a volume
The volume page has Info and Contents tabs. Contents is a read-only browser (folders first, sizes, dates, symlinks, hidden-files toggle) that reads the live filesystem through a running container that mounts the volume, or — when nothing mounts it — through a temporary read-only helper container, the only way to look inside an ext4 image from macOS. Containers that mount named volumes get a Volumes tab with the same browser, and Browse in their Mounts block jumps there.
Create sheet: pick a network
New containers can join a user-defined network instead of always landing on default; the service DNS domain is passed along so containers resolve each other by name. A duplicate container name is caught before anything runs, with a one-click free name.
Service Info for container CLI 1.4
Apple's container CLI 1.4 renamed the status rows, so Version Information and Data Root had gone blank — fixed, and the page now shows Service and CLI versions separately (with a warning when the CLI was upgraded but the service not restarted), the host (macOS build, architecture, CPUs), log root, a Storage section with counts and on-demand container system df sizes/reclaimable space, and Service Defaults (container/build/machine defaults, kernel, vminit, DNS domain, registry) from container system property list.
Container Info catches up with CLI 1.x
Creation date (renamed by the CLI, it had silently disappeared), Started with uptime, process user, image digest, stop signal, init/virtualization flags, capabilities, sysctls, labels, the network name (click to open) and MTU. Mounts distinguish named volumes (click to open), host paths and tmpfs. The Edit sheet now warns that recreating a container loses data not stored on a volume — the CLI no longer creates volumes for image VOLUME directives.
Verified with Apple container CLI 1.4.1.
Install / upgrade
brew upgrade --cask icontainer
# or first-time:
brew tap nico81/icontainer && brew install --cask icontainerOr download iContainer-v2.4.0.dmg below, open it, and drag iContainer into Applications. Signed & notarized; the app keeps itself up to date via Sparkle.
Requires macOS 26 (Apple silicon) and the Apple Container CLI.
