MacBreeze 1.0.13

@nicolafalcier99 nicolafalcier99 released this 28 Sep 08:35
  • Fixed: battery temperature was missing on some Macs. MacBreeze was reading it from the wrong place in macOS and found nothing; it now reads it from where the battery actually reports it.
  • Fixed: after an update, the fan helper could keep running its older code until you restarted your Mac. MacBreeze now notices when the helper is behind and restarts it, so fixes to it take effect straight away.
  • The menu bar no longer shifts sideways while MacBreeze works out your battery's charge or drain rate. The long "Calculating…" is now a small hourglass that takes the same space as the reading, so the icons next to MacBreeze stay put.
  • Right after you plug in the charger, MacBreeze shows the hourglass instead of the plug. macOS can take half a minute or more to start charging, and the plug made it look as if the Mac wouldn't charge.
  • Fixed: the battery hourglass could stay up forever at ordinary drain rates and never settle on a reading.

  • Fixed: Auto-Blast could stop engaging, leaving the fans low while the Mac ran hot. The fan helper keeps running across MacBreeze updates and restarts, and could hold on to an older safety temperature instead of the one showing in Safety. MacBreeze now checks that they agree and corrects the helper while it runs.
  • The fan helper now updates along with MacBreeze, instead of asking for your password to reinstall it by hand after some updates. This is also what left it holding stale settings in the first place.
  • App Automations now show what is happening, not just what each rule is set to do. The rule driving the fans is highlighted, and an app that is running but outranked by a rule above it is outlined rather than looking closed.
  • The What's New window no longer opens behind the dashboard, where it left the window in front looking blurred for no visible reason.
  • The update window now opens in the middle of the screen, like the rest of MacBreeze's windows.
  • The menu bar panel now closes when you click MacBreeze's own window, instead of staying open on top of it.
  • The active profile is easier to pick out in the Profiles list.

  • The menu bar readout has a Compact setting: the same readings in smaller type, for a menu bar that is already full. MacBreeze's own icon can be hidden too, leaving just the numbers.
  • Right-click the menu bar icon for quick actions: Blast, Open Dashboard, Quit.
  • Clicking the menu bar icon no longer flashes a dark box behind it.
  • MacBreeze can leave the Dock while its window is closed, so it lives in the menu bar alone. Turn it off in Preferences if you want the Dock icon and app menu always there.
  • Blast no longer makes the fan mode picker jump to Auto. Your setting stays on screen and comes back when Blast ends.
  • Each fan's real speed now stays visible while an app automation is running.
  • Descriptions under settings no longer run underneath the switch they describe.
  • In your licence's device list, "This Mac" and the Mac that manages the licence are now marked in colour.

  • A profile with a description no longer takes up half again as much room as the others — the description now sits beside the profile's name.

@nicolafalcier99 nicolafalcier99 released this 17 Sep 04:15
  • Clicking the menu bar icon no longer drags the MacBreeze window in front of whatever you were working in.
  • Each fan's real speed now stays on screen while an app automation is running, instead of disappearing exactly when you want to check it.
  • Changing a rule between "While Running" and "While Frontmost" now takes effect immediately, rather than waiting for that app to quit.
  • New switch on the App Automations page: whether the app you are working in takes the fans from a rule higher in the list, or the list order decides everything.
  • An open fan curve stays open — when you visit another page, and when you quit and come back.
  • The dashboard window now keeps one size, and Preferences can open it centred on screen or put it away when you switch desktop.
  • This window now lists every version you missed, not only the newest one, and opens in the middle of the screen.
  • The dashboard dims behind this window, and the current-temperature dot on the fan curve is no longer hidden by its own dashed line.

  • When an app automation is in charge of the fans, the menu bar panel says so once, right under the title, with that app's icon. Click it to open the automation.
  • The profile picker and status line step aside while an automation runs, instead of showing the app's name as if it were a profile.
  • The menu bar panel's header now carries MacBreeze's own menu bar icon.
  • After each update, MacBreeze shows what changed, in a window like this one.

MacBreeze 1.0.7

@nicolafalcier99 nicolafalcier99 released this 10 Sep 12:49

MacBreeze 1.0.7

Fixed

  • Fan controls looked frozen in the menu bar. While an app automation is running, MacBreeze locks the fan settings so the rule stays in charge — but the menu bar never said so. It now tells you which app is in control, and gives you a link straight to App Automations to change it.
  • The trial-ended notice could be missed. MacBreeze only checked your licence when it started, so if your trial ended while it was running you weren't told until you next restarted it. It now checks once a day.

Privacy

MacBreeze now records the day your Mac last checked its licence, and whether it's on a trial, the free version, or a paid licence, so we can count how many people use it. Nothing about how you use the app is recorded, and the record deletes itself after 90 days without a check-in. The details are in the privacy policy at macbreeze.app.

@nicolafalcier99 nicolafalcier99 released this 09 Sep 09:26

MacBreeze 1.0.6

Fixed

  • Temperatures unavailable after updating. MacBreeze's fan helper has to be reinstalled when the app is replaced, and the app never said so — it just showed nothing. It now tells you clearly, on whatever screen you are looking at, and offers a button to put it right.
  • Quit did nothing. Quit and Cmd-Q are now honoured. Closing the window still only hides MacBreeze, which is the point of it living in the menu bar.

MacBreeze 1.0.5

@nicolafalcier99 nicolafalcier99 released this 09 Sep 09:03

MacBreeze 1.0.5

Fixed

  • Updates now restart the app properly. MacBreeze deliberately ignores ordinary quit requests, because it lives in the menu bar and closing its window should only hide it — but that also blocked the updater from restarting the app to finish installing. Updating now closes and reopens MacBreeze by itself.

Note: this fix has to be in the version you are updating from. If you are on 1.0.3 or 1.0.4 and an update does not restart on its own, quit MacBreeze from its menu bar icon and it will finish installing.

@nicolafalcier99 nicolafalcier99 released this 09 Sep 08:56

MacBreeze 1.0.4

The first release MacBreeze can install by itself. If you are on 1.0.3, you should be offered this one rather than having to fetch it.

Changed

  • Scrollbars no longer appear anywhere in the app.

Under the hood

  • Fixes to the release process: the download link on the site is now served by the site itself, and the published download is checked automatically after every release.
