Nift v4.0.5 — reliability and release hardening
Nift 4.0.5 focuses on reliability and release hardening. There are no
intentional user-facing semantic changes in this release. It incorporates the
results of Nift's completed battle-hardening campaign, strengthening regression
enforcement, recovery and filesystem validation, cross-platform evidence, and
the checks that keep Nift's public reliability claims tied to retained evidence.
What this means
- Stronger regression enforcement. An integrity scanner rejects false-green
guard patterns (silent SKIP-as-pass, swallowed subprocess failures, masked
shell pipelines), and the enforcement checker structurally validates every
registered CI/release gate — triggers, job executability, cross-platform
breadth, andpaths:coverage that cannot silently collapse into
unrestricted triggers. - Every public reliability claim now maps to retained evidence. The
guarantee registry records what is established and, just as importantly, what
is not — with the boundaries of static checking documented rather than
implied. - Guards proven against broken implementations. Representative mutations
(stub, crashing, hanging, stale-output and corrupted-render tools) were
injected to prove each guard goes red on a broken tool and stays green on
real Nift. Incremental state transitions, parser/value composition, init
scaffolding, crash recovery, change-proportional builds and filesystem
containment are all continuously guarded in CI. - Recovery and filesystem validation. SIGKILL-during-build crash recovery,
bounded transactional-write recovery, and output containment under
adversarial path names are continuously guarded. - Cross-platform evidence remains validated across Linux, macOS and Windows,
with platform-specific filesystem behavior classified separately. - Public-truth reconciliation. Stale website claims were corrected against
measured evidence and the generated site rebuilt and republished in the
documented order.
No product changes
No Nift source behavior changed in this release. The changes are entirely in
test/enforcement machinery, retained evidence, and the public documentation
that describes what is established.
Install
Archives for Linux (x86-64), macOS (arm64, x86-64) and Windows (x86-64) plus
SHA256SUMS are attached to this release. Package-manager availability
(Snap, Chocolatey, Homebrew, Flathub) is tracked separately and may lag this
release.
