Cross-Validation Framework for Pressure Drop in Randomly Packed Beds

DOI

A computational framework for systematic cross-validation and gap analysis of packed bed correlations. Currently focused on single-phase pressure drop (ΔP) models.

Overview

Dozens of pressure drop correlations exist for packed beds, each with partially overlapping validity ranges derived from different experimental setups. This framework answers three questions:

  1. Which models are physically reliable? — Cross-validate each model against fundamental physical laws
  2. Where do models agree? — Compute a weighted consensus across all models and quantify agreement
  3. Where are the blind spots? — Detect regions of the design space where no model provides reliable predictions

The pipeline operates in three corresponding stages.
