Release list
Keywink 0.2.1
Automatic updates
Keywink now checks GitHub Releases for updates through Sparkle and offers to install them. Check for Updates… in the menu bar runs the check right away. This is the first release with the updater enabled, so 0.2.0 and older installs need one manual update to this version.
Updates are verified with an Ed25519 signature; the appcast attached to each release is what installed apps read.
Verify
Compare the download against Keywink-0.2.1-4.zip.sha256. The app is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.
Keywink 0.2.0
New action types, more configuration formats, and fixes for problems reported against the original Leader Key.
New
- Text and Shortcut actions. A Text action types a snippet into the app you came from; a Shortcut action presses a key combination there, such as
cmd+shift+4or⌘⇧T. Both need the Accessibility permission, which macOS requests on first use. - TOML and KDL configuration. Settings → Advanced → Format converts the configuration file to TOML or KDL and back, keeping the previous file as a backup. KDL uses one node per item:
application "s" "/Applications/Safari.app". - Import any format. Settings → General → Import configuration… accepts JSON, TOML, or KDL, including Leader Key's
config.json, and converts it to the active format. - Repeat last action. A second global shortcut (Settings → General) and
keywink://repeatrun the previous action again. - App toggle. Optional setting: an application action hides the app when it is already in front.
- Image icons. PNG, JPEG, ICNS, and similar files work as icons for actions and groups.
Fixed
- Deleting or renaming a group releases its global shortcut; shortcuts of groups that no longer exist are never registered (Leader Key mikker#289, mikker#290).
- The configuration is loaded before the global shortcut is registered, so the first activation after launch never shows an empty root (mikker#321).
- Sticky mode survives an action that brings another app to the front (mikker#223).
- Settings texts explain the modifier keys once and note that cheatsheet settings apply to the non-default themes.
Install
Download Keywink-0.2.0-3.zip, unzip it, and move Keywink.app to Applications. Signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. Requires macOS 13 or later; universal Apple Silicon and Intel binary. Automatic updates are not enabled yet; download new versions from this page.
Verify the download:
shasum -a 256 -c Keywink-0.2.0-3.zip.sha256Keywink 0.1.1
First Developer ID signed and notarized Keywink release. The app now opens directly after download; the "Open Anyway" workaround from 0.1.0 is no longer needed.
Changes since 0.1.0
- Builds are signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.
- Test-suite fixes for shortcut recording and Key Guide layout on CI. No functional changes to the app.
Keywink is an independent fork of Leader Key with its own app identity, so it can be installed alongside Leader Key. See the 0.1.0 release for the feature overview.
Install
Download Keywink-0.1.1-2.zip, unzip it, and move Keywink.app to Applications. Requires macOS 13 or later; universal Apple Silicon and Intel binary. Automatic updates are not enabled yet; download new versions from this page.

shasum -a 256 -c Keywink-0.1.1-2.zip.sha256Keywink 0.1.0
First Keywink release. Keywink is an independent fork of Leader Key with its own app identity, so it can be installed alongside Leader Key.
This build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. macOS will say it cannot verify the app on first launch. Open it once, then choose System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Or clear the quarantine flag before launching:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Keywink.appDeveloper ID signed and notarized builds will follow once Apple has activated the developer account.
Highlights
- Key Guide launcher: a compact, centered single-column guide with key badges, icons, and the group path in the header. Backspace goes up one level, Escape dismisses.
- Hyper group shortcuts: bind a global shortcut directly to a top-level group and jump straight into it.
- Local usage statistics with optional frequency ranking per source application. Counts stay on your Mac.
- Explicit Leader Key import in Settings → General. Validates the file, backs up the current configuration, and leaves the source untouched.
- Own identity:
Keywink.app, bundle identifierde.niklas-heer.Keywink,keywink://URL scheme, configuration in~/Library/Application Support/Keywink. - Fix for shortcut recording on recent macOS versions.
