@niraletter niraletter released this 18 Jan 07:20

What Changed?

Add few CLI arguments, Pomodoro skip functionality, and notification urgency fixes.

Additions

  • CLI Arguments for Keyboard Shortcuts suggested by @BibekBhusal0 #4
    • toggle - Toggle play/pause
    • pause - Force pause timer
    • resume - Force resume timer
    • reset - Reset timer to idle
    • skip - Skip current pomodoro session
  • Pomodoro Skip with Right Click - Right-click during active pomodoro sessions to skip current work/break period

Fixes

  • Fix notification persistence issue where timer completion notifications became sticky in certain notification daemons (changed from critical to normal urgency)

Usage Examples

# Start a timer
./waybar-timer.sh 25m

# Bind these to keyboard shortcuts in your WM/DE
./waybar-timer.sh toggle    # Pause/resume
./waybar-timer.sh skip # Skip current session (pomodoro only)
./waybar-timer.sh reset     # Reset timer

Pomodoro Skip Behavior

  • Right-click during work session → Skip to break
  • Right-click during break → Skip to next work session (or complete if last session)
  • Tooltip shows "Right Click: Skip Session" when available

Upgrade Steps

Simply update your script:

curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/niraletter/waybar-timer/main/timer.sh -o ~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh && \
chmod +x ~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh

No configuration changes needed if you're upgrading from v1.1.0.

v1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@niraletter niraletter released this 16 Jan 09:27

What Changed?

Major rewrite with event-driven architecture, add sound effects, and Pomodoro mode.

New Features

  • Add full Pomodoro support with editable work, break, and session durations
  • Add desktop notifications with optional sound support
  • Add new CLI arguments for timer and Pomodoro control
  • Add persistent state so the timer survives restarts and syncs across instances

Improvements

  • Reduce CPU usage to 0% when idle or running by switching to an event-driven FIFO model
  • Remove click latency with instant UI updates

Bug Fixes

  • Fix delayed UI updates from sleep polling
  • Fix excessive CPU usage from constant wakeups
  • Fix sound path expansion with ~ character
  • Fix state loss on Waybar crash (now persists)

Upgrade Steps

Update your Waybar config - remove interval and signal, add update mouse event handlers:

// Remove: "interval": 1, "signal": 42

// Add:
"on-click": "~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh click",
"on-click-right": "~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh right",
"on-click-middle": "~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh middle",
"on-scroll-up": "~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh down",  // previously up
"on-scroll-down": "~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh up",  // previously down
"return-type": "json",
"format": "{}",
"tooltip": true,
"escape": true

Then run:

mkdir -p ~/.config/waybar/scripts ~/.config/waybar/sounds && \
curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/niraletter/waybar-timer/main/timer.sh -o ~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh && \
curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/niraletter/waybar-timer/main/sounds/timer.mp3 -o ~/.config/waybar/sounds/timer.mp3 && \
chmod +x ~/.config/waybar/scripts/timer.sh

This adds new sounds directory with an audio file timer.mp3 in your ~/.config/waybar/sounds.
