screen sharing on discord

i run discord with xwayland-satellite env DISPLAY=:0 discord and the screen is black when i try to stream. OBS works just fine, ive taken plenty of vids.

do i need to pass any env variables before running discord?

If you are on systemd. Start niri with niri-session. And run discord with --ozone-platform=wayland.

when i start niri with niri-session discord and steam start up aumatically and i cant kill discord, when i do it spawns a bunch of discord processes and one of them was eating 97% of my cpu. even after rebooting it does the same thing

so i rebooted again and ran niri with niri-session and it still opens discord and steam on start-up but now there isnt a million discord processes so i killed it and ran discord with discord --ozone-platform=wayland but it still doesnt work and now it doesnt pick up any windows. before i could screen share windows, just not the desktop

i think pipewire stopped working when i restarted xdg-desktop-portal

Discord has natively supported wayland for six months now. No need to click anything or anything. You just need to install the Gnome portal.

In my case, I use a Vesktop and can show demos, but the quality is terrible, and they should have never been added.

so on hyprland a window pops up and i can select windows or a monitor, but on niri that window doesnt pop up

and why does discord and steam start up automatically??? i have not set that in my config

when using niri-session to start niri as apposed to just starting it with niri

niri-session starts xdg-autostart by default, so if you have anything on xdg autostart dirs (usually ~/.config/autostart and /etc/xdg/autostart) it will autostart with niri

i have both xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-desktop-portal-wlr installed but cant record my screen at all with OBS and discord

you would need to put org.freedesktop.impl.portal.ScreenCast=wlr inside of /usr/share/xdg-desktop-portal/niri-portals.conf and then reboot I think

thanks that works

but in obs the screen freezes after a while and it cant pick up my left monitor

niri doesn't really support the wlr portal, I would recommend that you use the gnome one if available

so the gnome window asking me to what window i want to share when clicking share screen on discord randomly stops working, restarting discord used to work but now it doesnt. the window still pops up on OBS, but not on discord anymore

oh nvm it doesnt pop up on OBS either, the screen still records tho...

i restarted the gnome portal thing and it works now
