Discord screen share not working

Hey niri users,

I have been using niri for quite sometime now, but there is this one issue I have not been able to resolve.

When I try screensharing in Discord, it asks if I wanna share full screen or certain windows, but it shares for a few seconds and then automatically stops sharing.

I am on Endeavour OS and I installed Discord using paru -S discord

I heard we had to edit /usr/share/xdg-desktop-portal/niri-portals.conf

default=gnome;gtk;
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Access=gtk;
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Notification=gtk;
org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Secret=gnome-keyring;

I did this and still haven't been able to share. I would appreciate any help regarding this matter.

Screen sharing works on browser apps like Zoom, Google Meet but fails even in the discord browser version

How are you starting niri..?
Do you have xdg-desktop-portal-gnome installed..?
Additionaly when it fails to screencast can you provide the output of systemctl --user status pipewire..?

I found out, I disabled Hardware acceleration and still the stream stops automatically

Nah it's cool. But unfortunately it has not been fixed yet.

The current way I am aware of to disable the recent discord 2026-03-linux-vulkan-capture is using the vesktop client. You would need to go to plugins, enable the experiments, restart vesktop entirely, and then go back to settings and scroll down to the new experiments tab and search the one I said above, click on it, and set to not eligible

Hm I did try vesktop once, but had some mic issues so I uninstalled it. Could that be because of this too ?

Uhh I would not think so, as I use vesktop perfectly fine and know a few others who do too
