NitroFont Rebooted 5.0 beta 1

Version 5.0 of NitroFont Rebooted will bring support for presets from the General MIDI Level 2 standard, as well as several changes to existing instruments. This beta has the changes to the existing presets, with not GM2 presets implemented (they will be in the full release).

• Reprogrammed the following presets:
• • 000:003 SC-55 tack piano (now simply called Tack piano) (also affects 001:003, 008,003, and 127:007)
• • 000:050 SC-88 synth strings (now called Pro synth strings) (modeled after the respective SC-88 Pro preset, hence the new name)
• • 000:072 Tutti # 1 and 000:073 Tutti # 2 (also affects 001:072, as well as 127:072 to 127:075)
• • 000:075 SC-55 Pan flute (also affects 000:082, 127:077, and 127:127)
• • 000:101 Goblin chant (modeled after the respective Creative 2MBGM preset)
• Replaced the samples for the following:
• • 000:052 Microsoft choir (now called SC-88 choir) (also affects 008:085 and 032:052)
• • 000:062 Tenor saxophone (now called Breathy tenor sax) (also affects 127:080)
• • 000:102 Echo drops (now called E-mu echo drops) (samples replaced with higher-quality equivalents)
• Reworked the drum kits (bank 128) with new presets
• • The Roland SC-88 Pro kit (preset 128:002) was moved to 128:003. Its previous place is now occupied by a new drum kit known as GeneralUser GS (alt), which has a higher pitched rimshot
• • Added a new drum kit called Roland SC-8850/8820 at preset 128:004

NitroFont Rebooted 4.3_1

This is a reupload version of NitroFont Rebooted 4.3_1. The only change is holbred's 8MBGM Enhanced soundfont now being properly credited (since the samples for the piccolo flute were borrowed from this one). No changes were made to how the soundfont sounds; no need to update from version 4.3.

• Presets 000:000 Dream piano # 1 and 000:001 Dream piano # 2 were remastered to use the iconic Roland SC-55 grand piano samples. The synth strings layer is still there for both presets
• • Since preset 000:003 SC-55 tack piano has already been using the same samples ever since day one, and because the velocity layers were removed for both Dream piano # 1 and # 2, NitroFont Rebooted's file size has been somewhat reduced
• • This change also affects presets 001:000, 001:001, 008:000, 008:001, 016:000, 032:000, 127:000, 127:001, and 127:002
• Preset 000:036 Reso slap bass no longer has velocity layers. The sample set previously played below velocity 100 is now always played, regardless of velocity. The removed samples originated from the SC-55; I decided to remove them just because the SC-55 is already over-represented in the soundfont, as well as to reduce the soundfont's file size
• • This change also affects presets 008:033, 008:036, 008:039, and 127:068
• Presets 000:072 Piccolo flute (now Tutti # 1) and 000:073 Tutti (now Tutti # 2) were revamped, both are now flute + piccolo duos. The difference between the two is that they use two different sample sets for the flute layer. Previously, these two sample sets were used by 000:073 Tutti to create velocity layers, now, the same sample set is used for all velocity levels in that preset
• • A similar change affects presets 127:072 and 127:073
• The gunshot sound effect (preset 000:127, as well as note 72 in kit 128:056 Sound effects and note 96 in kit 128:127 Roland CM-32L) was transposed upwards by 6 semitones
• The explosion sound effect (preset 003:127, as well as note 75 in kit 128:056 Sound effects and note 99 in kit 128:127 Roland CM-32L) was revamped

NitroFont Rebooted 4.2.2

Presets 000:044 and 000:048 were reverted back to Tremolo str. section and Marcato str. section, respectively. Plus, the samples for the strings section were once again replaced (I tend to make changes based on how it sounds).

• Reverted the samples for the strings (used by presets such as 000:048 Marcato + flute) back to the old ones from NitroFont Rebooted 1.0
• Adjusted the sample mapping for preset 000:075 SC-55 Pan flute

• Reworked the strings (used in some presets, e.g., 000:048 Marcato + flute)
• Reworked preset 000:038 SC-55 synth bass into SONiVOX synth bass
• Reworked preset 000:044 Tremolo str. section into Tremolo + flute
• Renamed preset 000:048 Strings + flute to Marcato + flute
• • This preset was also remastered to use only 2 layers instead of 3, thus reducing CPU usage
• Renamed preset 000:064 MS soprano sax to SC-88 soprano sax
• Decreased scale tuning for preset 009:125 Burst noise (100 → 10)
• Increased decay times for presets 009:119 Ride cymbal and 016:119 Ride bell (3 s → 5 s) to match the respective sounds in the drum kits (I forgot to do this in the previous update 💀)
• • The same change was made to the ride cymbal in the orchestral kit (preset 128:048) (note 30)
• Reworked the drum kits. This means some samples were replaced
• • Plus, kick drums are no longer louder than the rest of the drum sounds

NitroFont Rebooted 4.1

• Remastered the following presets:
• • 000:048 Marcato str. section (now Strings + flute) (added a flute layer to diverge from General MIDI)
• • 000:050 SC-55 synth str. # 1 (now SC-88 synth strings) (now once again imitates the Roland SC-88 rather than the SC-55)
• • 000:051 SC-55 synth str. # 2 (now Bright synth strings)
• Replaced the samples for the following sounds with higher-quality equivalents:
• • crash cymbal (presets 000:119 E-mu reverse cymbal, 008:119 and 127:119 Crash cymbal, note 49 in some drum kits and 57 in most drum kits)
• • gunshot (preset 000:127 E-mu gunshot, note 72 in kit 128:056 Sound effects, note 96 in kit 128:127 Roland CM-32L)
• Crash and ride cymbals have longer decay (3 s → 5 s)

CHANGELOG RELATIVE TO VERSION 4.0 BETA 4:

• Added the remaining Roland MT-32 melodic presets
• Adjusted decay times for preset 000:007 Attack clavinet
• Presets 000:024 SONiVOX nylon gt. and 000:025 SONiVOX steel gt. no longer have variable micro-delay, thus reverting the change made in the first beta

• • Kick drums (notes 35-36) no longer have attenuation at all, making them especially louder. Preset 008:116 Orchestral bass drum is also affected, but the kick drums in the GeneralUser GS kit (preset 128:001) aren't
• • Sound effects (notes 47-84 in preset 128:056 Sound effects and notes 24-26 and 76-108 in preset 128:127 Roland CM-32L) aren't affected

• Added the first 32 of the Roland MT-32 melodic instruments (presets 127:000 to 127:031)
• Added an experimental Roland SC-88 Pro drum kit at preset 128:002
• Remastered preset 000:052 Eerie choir (now Microsoft choir)
• Introduced new clicking sounds heard in presets 000:024 SONiVOX nylon gt. and 000:025 SONiVOX steel gt., which can be heard upon note release
• • The same changes were made to preset 032:054 Eerie choir # 2 (now Microsoft choir # 2) as well, and the preset was moved to 032:052, fixing an oversight
• Decreased the loudness of the kick drums in the GeneralUser GS drum kit (preset 128:001) (attenuation: 0 db → 6 db) to better simulate the actual drum sounds in GUGS
