Release list
ForeverSVFix v1.0.4
ForeverSVFix v1.0.4
ForeverSVFix v1.0.4 separates SavedVariables persistence from EllesmereUI-specific compatibility and fixes a confirmed Windows decoding crash.
EllesmereUI migration
EllesmereUI-specific fixes now live in the standalone EllesmereUI Forever Fix addon:
https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/ellesmereui-forever-fix
ForeverSVFix is still required for EllesmereUI settings/profile persistence while the WoW Forever SavedVariables loader bug exists.
If Apply / Refresh finds the old ForeverSVFixEllesmereUI.lua compatibility shim from v1.0.3 or earlier, it asks before removing it and creates a safety backup first. ForeverSVFix does not download or install the standalone addon automatically.
Windows fix
v1.0.4 fixes UnicodeDecodeError failures caused by localized cmd.exe output during Windows junction creation/removal. Both subprocess paths now tolerate bytes that cannot be represented by Python's selected locale codec.
Scope
This release does not claim fixes for the still-open Wowhead Looter TOC-rewrite issue, the macOS startup issue, or addons that are not currently discovered as SavedVariables targets.
ForeverSVFix v1.0.3
ForeverSVFix v1.0.3
v1.0.3 fixes two issues reported after the first stable releases.
Per-character SavedVariables
WoW Forever requires first and last names for characters. ForeverSVFix now handles the full character identity more defensively when selecting generated per-character helpers, including safe fallbacks for the beta's inconsistent WTF folder layouts.
Generated per-character helpers are also marked enabled by default.
Windows addon updates
Some addon updaters can replace ForeverSVFix's Windows directory junctions with normal directories while updating an addon. Apply / Refresh can now remove those stale ForeverSVFix-owned directories and recreate the proper links instead of aborting with "The directory is not empty."
As before, normal SavedVariables under WTF are not deleted by this cleanup.
ForeverSVFix v1.0.2
ForeverSVFix v1.0.2
v1.0.2 reduces the automatic update-check cache from 24 hours to 15 minutes.
This means ForeverSVFix will notice newly released updates much sooner while still avoiding repeated GitHub requests when the app is opened many times in a short period.
Manual Check for updates checks remain immediate and bypass the cache.
There are no changes to the SavedVariables workaround in this release.
ForeverSVFix v1.0.1
ForeverSVFix v1.0.1
v1.0.1 fixes a SavedVariables load-order problem found after the first stable release.
Some addons initialize their SavedVariables globals to defaults while their normal Lua/XML files load. ForeverSVFix v1.0.0 restored data before those files, which allowed those addons to overwrite the restored values again.
v1.0.1 restores account-wide and per-character SavedVariables after the addon's normal files by default, matching WoW's normal SavedVariables timing more closely.
Addons that explicitly declare ## LoadSavedVariablesFirst: 1 keep their requested pre-script behavior. The previously validated EllesmereUI compatibility path also keeps its existing ordering.
Existing installations are migrated when you run Apply / Refresh ForeverSVFix after updating.
This fix was reproduced and confirmed with the per-character loading issue reported in GitHub issue #2.
ForeverSVFix v1.0.0
ForeverSVFix v1.0.0
ForeverSVFix v1.0.0 is the first stable release of the workaround for the World of Warcraft: Forever beta SavedVariables loading bug.
