Audio HUD v1.2.0

Audio HUD v1.2.0 introduces routing-aware PipeWire stream monitoring, improved sample-rate reporting, and refinements to the widget's appearance, responsiveness, and reliability.

What's New

Routing-Aware Audio Monitoring

  • Detects active playback streams connected to the default audio output.
  • Supports streams routed through processing chains such as EasyEffects.
  • Tracks multiple playback applications and displays their negotiated audio formats and sample rates.

Improved Sample-Rate Detection

  • Introduces five distinct monitoring states:
    • RATE MATCH — All detected active streams match the output sample rate.
    • RATE MISMATCH — At least one active stream differs from the output sample rate.
    • RATE UNKNOWN — Insufficient information to determine whether sample rates match.
    • IDLE — No active playback streams detected.
    • OFFLINE — Audio monitoring is unavailable.
  • Compares sample rates independently of PCM bit depth.

Interface Improvements

  • Adaptive layout for narrow and wide widget configurations.
  • Improved spacing and stream information presentation.
  • Native KDE Plasma background controls.
  • Automatic compatibility with light and dark Plasma colour schemes.

Reliability Improvements

  • Better handling of audio output changes and unavailable devices.
  • Improved recovery from failed audio queries.
  • Prevents stale codec information from remaining visible after a query failure.

Important Notes

RATE MATCH does not mean bit-perfect playback. Audio HUD compares reported stream and output sample rates; it does not verify that audio processing, mixing, or other transformations are absent.

Routing detection operates at the PipeWire node level. More complicated audio graphs may not always be represented precisely.
