after :

having pdf settings in the global header meant the header had to query the current pdf on every pdf route render. putting it inside the viewer toolbar is more co-located the viewer already has the pdf data, passing it down two levels is cheap, and the settings button is visually grouped with the other viewer controls where it belongs.
and not only that it just much better than the gradient doesn't work if the pdf was black and the gradiant take the background color so any way this looks better for now
