Bloody Roar II Recompiled v0.7.1 — release candidate

Changes

  • Updated the shared recomp-ui launcher to b688ca79109bc3cc30a6f9de66d81ea70f0acf81.
  • Prepared matching Windows x64 and Linux x64 universal-game build workflows.
  • Release packagers now reject a version mismatch between VERSION and the
version embedded in the runtime before creating a distributable zip.
  • Kept the psxrecomp pin at compatible commit
    219a3627f817c5ad60b852d368c1bebc4f584b71, which contains the multi-region,
mod catalog and netplay integrations required by this title.

Build artifacts

  • Windows: BloodyRoar2-v0.7.1.zip
  • Linux x64: BloodyRoar2-linux-x64-0.7.1.zip

The full Windows and Linux workflows produce build artifacts for validation.
Publish the release only after both artifacts have passed their platform checks.
The Windows artifact uses the OpenGL default renderer; the Linux artifact also
includes the optional Vulkan backend.
Japan/Asia remains experimental; EU and USA remain the supported regions.

Bloody Roar II Recompiled v0.7.0

One executable, any supported region

This release collapses the per-region downloads into a single universal
executable
, per OS. The same binary runs the European (SLES-01722), USA
(SCUS-94424)
and Japan/Asia (SLPS-01842) images: it reads the mounted
disc's boot executable at launch and runs that region's recompiled code.

  • Europe and USA are supported.
  • Japan/Asia is included but marked experimental (bring-up) - not
officially supported. An unrecognized disc fails with a clear identity error
instead of running the wrong region's code.

Downloads

Zip OS Regions
BloodyRoar2-v0.7.0.zip Windows EU + USA (+ Japan exp.)
BloodyRoar2-linux-x64-0.7.0.zip Linux EU + USA (+ Japan exp.)

Each zip is self-contained (executable, OpenBIOS, launcher assets, mod catalog).
Add your legally owned disc image and pick it in the launcher. No compiler,
Python or setup step is needed to play.

What changed

  • Universal multi-region runtime: each region is emitted under its own symbol
    prefix (br2eu_ / br2us_ / br2jp_) and linked behind one PsxGameBackend
registry; the active image is selected from the disc.
  • Per-image entry PC / load address / text bounds are re-bound after selection,
so savestates, rewind and overlay handling use the right region's timing.
  • Region-scoped mods resolve against the mounted disc (fixes Play doing nothing
    on a non-base region).
  • Mods: unlock-all gains Japan region tables selected at runtime; widescreen /
FMV-skip / turbo cover all three regions.
  • One self-contained zip per OS instead of separate EU/US folders.

Mods

Widescreen (16:9/21:9/adaptive, authored from scratch), intro FMV skip, unlock
all content, turbo, CD speed, fast loading and PGXP - all off by default.

Pre-release audit

Before publishing, the whole mod stack was re-checked against the framework test
suite and the three discs:

  • All bundled and built-in mods were exercised on EU, USA and Japan: FMV skip,
    widescreen (16:9 / 21:9 / adaptive), unlock-all, turbo (75/120/uncapped),
CD speed, fast loading and PGXP all activate without error, and the game boots
    and runs in every region.
  • PGXP now ships with its precision hooks compiled into the binary (the mod
stays off by default), so its vertex/texture correction has full dataflow
coverage instead of the reduced base-build tier - the faithful, unmodified
rendering is unchanged while the mod is off.
  • Fixed a fingerprint routine that read a whole disc through a ~1 MB stack
buffer; it could overflow the default thread stack exactly when a mod-enabled
launch fingerprints the disc. It now streams in 64 KB chunks (same digest).
  • Fixed netplay "mods follow the host": a guest now adopts the host's plan,
clearing its own offline mod selection instead of merging the two, so an extra
offline mod can no longer desync a match.
  • The online gate is dump-strict per region: each region has its own TOC
fingerprint and the lobby title carries the mounted region, so an EU host and
a US guest are never matched.

Notes

  • Netplay peers must run this same release and the same region's disc.
  • No disc data, retail BIOS or pre-generated C is included - supply your own
    legally owned disc image.

Bloody Roar II Recompiled v0.6.2

Choose a tag to compare

@novapowers0 novapowers0 released this 07 Sep 20:54

Bloody Roar II Recompiled - v0.6.2 (dual-region, Windows + Linux)

The original PS1 MIPS code is statically recompiled to C and built into a
native PC executable — a real port, not an emulator. Everything is
ready-to-play: no Python, compiler or setup step required.

What's new in v0.6.2

  • New mod: Unlock All Content (br2.enhancement.unlock-all) — unlocks
Gado, Shen Long, all custom options, movies and pictures without completing
modes. It uses a guest-RAM flag rewrite (the classic GameShark-style codes),
so nothing on disk is modified. Skipped in netplay sessions.
  • New mod: Turbo Mode (br2.enhancement.turbo) — runs the game at an
arcade-style turbo cadence (75 / 120 Hz or uncapped) by re-pacing the guest
VBlank. Gameplay speed scales with the rate, like the classic arcade Turbo
    editions.
  • Vulkan backend now offered in the launcher's Video settings (Fase 1 of
the post-v0.6.0 roadmap). OpenGL remains the default.
  • Mods follow the host in netplay: the host's enabled mod plan is published
on the lobby and every peer applies it at launch, so the match simulates
identically. Guests that lack a host-selected package are warned before the
session starts. The unlock-all mod stays off online.
  • PAL 60 Hz fix: on European (PAL) builds, keeping the mod's native 60 Hz
vblank rate when the user picked 60 Hz no longer gets clamped.

Built-in mods

Mod What it does
br2.enhancement.widescreen Real widescreen (16:9 / 21:9 / Adaptive): widens the 3D fight camera to reveal more of the arena. 2D menus and FMVs stay faithful 4:3.
br2.enhancement.performance Intro FMV skip: ends the intro movies the game's own way the instant they are detected.
br2.enhancement.unlock-all Unlock All Content (Gado, Shen Long, custom options, movies, pictures). Skipped in netplay.
br2.enhancement.turbo Turbo Mode: 75 / 120 Hz or uncapped guest-VBlank re-pace.
psx.enhancement.cd-speed Shortens load times by speeding up the emulated CD drive.
psx.enhancement.fast-loading Accelerates the wall-clock pacing of loads.
psx.enhancement.pgxp PGXP Precision: sub-pixel vertices + perspective-correct texturing.

All default to off — toggle them from the launcher's Mods tab.

How to play online

  1. Both players download the same release zip for their region + OS.
  2. Open the launcher, click Netplay → Create (host) or Join.
  3. Seat both players and start the match. The host's mod plan applies to
    everyone.

@novapowers0 novapowers0 released this 07 Sep 02:04

Bloody Roar II Recompiled - v0.6.0 (dual-region, Windows + Linux)

The original PS1 MIPS code is statically recompiled to C and built into a
native PC executable - a real port, not an emulator. Everything is
ready-to-play: no Python, compiler or setup step required.

What's new in v0.6.0

  • Official netplay support. Bloody Roar II now ships 2-player online
    versus
through the launcher's Netplay button, on the framework's
    rollback-capable recomp-net
stack (ICE/TURN + SFU online, plus LAN / Direct IP). The public lobby runs at
    netplay.retcomm.net.
  • Same-disc and same-version gating: every peer must run the same release
build and mount the same region's .cue/.bin image geometry (TOC
fingerprint + track count verified before a session starts).
  • The previous v0.5.1 groundwork (v4 runtime, netplay ABI pair, regenerated C
with the v4 emitter) is now fully exposed and documented.

How to play online

  1. Both players download the same release zip for their region + OS.
  2. Open the launcher, click Netplay → Create (host) or Join.
  3. Seat both players and start the match. Mods are disabled for netplay
sessions so every peer simulates identically.

Bloody Roar II Recompiled - v0.5.1 (dual-region, Windows + Linux)

The original PS1 MIPS code is statically recompiled to C and built into a
native PC executable - a real port, not an emulator. Everything is
ready-to-play: no Python, compiler or setup step required.

What's new in v0.5.1

  • Runtime upgraded to the psxrecomp v4 framework with the netplay ABI pair
    (psxrecomp 3e30c123 + recomp-ui bba6266). This is a foundation release:
the full netplay/spectator stack is now ABI-aligned and ready for future
    online play.
  • Regenerated game C with the v4 emitter for both regions (55 shards each) -
EU (SLES-01722) and US (SCUS-94424) are rebuilt from the new codegen.
  • Mod catalog re-curated under the v4 layout (mods/bundled): widescreen,
intro FMV skip, CD speed, fast loading and PGXP - kept clean of the generic
    framework-wide stubs.
