Added

  • image sequences: numbered images (shot_0001.png … shot_0240.png) import as one clip that plays like footage, in the media library, on the timeline or dropped as a folder. The frames keep their original quality and load as they play, so long sequences stay light. Set the sequence's rate in Timing.
  • frame rate per layer: any layer can run at its own rate in Timing → Frame rate, whatever the comp runs at: 12 for animation on twos, or below 1 for a picture every few seconds. Each picture holds until the next one.

Changed

  • render in place: the result is real media in the layer's place, a PNG sequence (keeps transparency) or a video, saved to a Renders folder in the media library. It no longer turns the layer into a nested clip. Layers with sound get their sound as a linked audio clip.
  • render in place: Switch to original brings back exactly what was there, groups with all their layers included. If you changed the render (moved it, faded it, added effects), those changes come back on a nested clip around the original, so nothing is lost.
  • export: Rendered layers now defaults to using the renders; choose Re-render from originals to export as if every render were switched back.
  • cache: decoded footage has its own switch and memory share. It stays on when the render cache is off, and Purge no longer clears it.

Fixed

  • timeline: loops follow speed ramps and freeze frames. The loop handle, cycle marks and "media ends" shading sit where playback actually restarts, and a set loop length restarts the clip at the right moment.

Installing

macOS

AtomCut is not yet notarized, so on first launch Gatekeeper will say the app
"is damaged and can't be opened" or "cannot be opened because the developer
cannot be verified." This is expected for unsigned builds. After dragging
AtomCut into Applications, clear the quarantine flag once:

xattr -cr /Applications/AtomCut.app

Then open it normally. (Alternatively: right-click the app → Open → Open.)

Windows

SmartScreen may warn on first run. Choose More info → Run anyway.

Linux

  • AppImage: chmod +x AtomCut-*.AppImage && ./AtomCut-*.AppImage
  • Debian/Ubuntu: sudo dpkg -i AtomCut-*.deb

Once installed, AtomCut keeps itself up to date automatically — new versions are
offered in-app and install on relaunch.
